Gunnar Johansson (canoeist)
Gunnar Johansson (23 March 1919 – 11 December 1998) was a Swedish sprint canoeist who competed from the late 1930s to the late 1940s. He won two medals at the 1938 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Vaxholm with a gold in the K-2 10000 m and a bronze in the K-4 1000 m events. 1938 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships
The 1938 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held in Vaxholm, Sweden, outside Stockholm, between 6–7 August 1938. This event was held under the auspices of the Internationale Repräsentantenschaft Kanusport (IRK), founded in 1924 and the forerunner of the International Canoe Federation. The men's competition consisted of three Canadian (single paddle, open boat) and seven kayak events. Two events were held for the women, both in kayak. This was the first championships in canoe sprint and the only one held prior to World War II which would break out the following year. It is also the only time the K-1 10000 m folding and K-2 10000 m folding events would take place in the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, world championships. Vaxholm
Vaxholm is a city, urban area and the seat of Vaxholm Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. It occupies the islands of Vaxön and Kullö in the Stockholm archipelago. The name Vaxholm comes from Vaxholm Fortress, which was constructed in 1549 on the adjacent islet of Vaxholmen. For historical reasons it has always been referred to as a ''city'', despite the small number of inhabitants, which as of 2020 total was 6,151.
