''Gun Shy'' is an American sitcom that was shown on CBS from March 15 to April 19, 1983. The series, produced by Walt Disney Productions, was based on its popular comedy Western films '' The Apple Dumpling Gang'' (1975) and ''The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again'' (1979). Premise Set in 1869, a gambler (Barry Van Dyke) wins two children (Keith Mitchell and later Adam Rich, and Bridgette Andersen) in a poker game and moves to Quake City, California. The Apple Dumpling Gang (film)
''The Apple Dumpling Gang'' is a 1975 American comedy-Western film directed by Norman Tokar. It follows a slick gambler named Russell Donovan ( Bill Bixby) who is duped into taking care of three orphans who eventually strike gold. It was produced by Walt Disney Productions. The film is based on the 1971 novel of the same name by Jack M. Bickham. Don Tait wrote the screenplay. The so-called "Apple Dumpling Gang" are named after their favorite American dessert treat, the apple dumpling. It is also known as being the first film to feature the comedy duo of Don Knotts and Tim Conway. Buddy Baker composed the music for the film and its sequel, '' The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again'', with Joseph Dubin performing the orchestration. Henry Albert Polic II (February 20, 1945 – August 11, 2013) was an American stage, screen, and voice actor, best known as Jerry Silver on '' Webster''. He earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from Florida State University and later served in the military police at Fort Riley in Kansas. While at Florida State University he starred in many stage productions including Our Town. He also was an active member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Burton Gilliam (born August 9, 1938) is an American actor. He is best known for memorable roles in several popular 1970s movies such as ''Blazing Saddles'' and '' Paper Moon'', as well as comedic cameos in '' Back to the Future, Part III'' (1990) and ''Honeymoon in Vegas''. Pat McCormick (June 30, 1927 – July 29, 2005) was an American actor and comedy writer known for playing Big Enos Burdette in '' Smokey and the Bandit'' and its two sequels. Janis Paige (born Donna Mae Tjaden; September 16, 1922 – June 2, 2024) was an American actress and singer. With a career spanning nearly 60 years, she was one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
