Hinterkaifeck Murders
The Hinterkaifeck murders occurred on the evening of 31 March 1922, when six inhabitants of a small Bavarian farmstead, located approximately north of Munich, Germany, were murdered by an unknown assailant. The six victims were Andreas Gruber (aged 63), his wife Cäzilia Gruber (aged 72), their widowed daughter Viktoria Gabriel (aged 35), Viktoria's children, Cäzilia (aged 7) and Josef (aged 2), and the maid, Maria Baumgartner (aged 44). They were all found struck dead with a mattock, which was later recovered in the loft of the barn. The perpetrator(s) lived with the six corpses of their victims for three days. During this time, they ate the food in the house, fed the animals on the property, and started fires in the home's fireplace. Four of the dead bodies were found stacked up in the barn, the victims likely having been lured there, one by one. Prior to the incident, the family and their former maid had reported hearing strange noises coming from the attic, which led to tha ...

GUMPS is an acronym widely used by retractable gear aircraft pilots as a mental checklist to ensure nothing critical has been forgotten before landing. Its popularity is widespread, appearing in flight student curricula, FAA publications and aviation magazines. Due to distraction and preoccupation during the landing sequence approximately 100 gear-up landing incidents occurred each year in the United States between 1998 and 2003. The checklist GUMPS stands for: * G – Gas (Fuel on the proper tank, fuel pump on as required, positive fuel pressure) * U – Undercarriage (landing gear down) * M – Mixture (fuel mixture set) * P – Propeller A propeller (often called a screw if on a ship or an airscrew if on an aircraft) is a device with a rotating hub and radiating blades that are set at a pitch to form a helical spiral which, when rotated, exerts linear thrust upon a working flu ... Harry Kendall Thaw
Harry Kendall Thaw (February 12, 1871 – February 22, 1947) was the son of American coal and railroad baron William Thaw Sr. Heir to a multimillion-dollar fortune, he is most notable for having murdered the renowned architect Stanford White in front of hundreds of witnesses at the rooftop theatre of New York City's Madison Square Garden (1890), Madison Square Garden on June 25, 1906. Thaw had harbored an obsessive hatred of White, believing he had blocked Thaw's access to the social elite of New York. White also had a previous relationship with Thaw's wife, the model and chorus girl Evelyn Nesbit, when she was 16 or 17. This affair began with White allegedly date rape, plying Nesbit with alcohol (and possibly with drugs) and then raping her while she was unconscious. In Thaw's mind, this relationship had "ruined" her. Thaw's trial for murder was heavily publicized and called the "trial of the century". After one hung jury, a second jury found him not guilty by reason of ...
