Gulucun Cable Car
Gulucun Cable Car is a aerial tramway connecting the two mountain villages of Gulu and Maping deep within the Dadu River Canyon in Hanyuan, Sichuan, China. The 720 meter span crosses 400 meters above Laochang Creek, one of 4 large tributaries on the north side of the Dadu River canyon. A local 2-lane road on the Gulu side allows access to the west station while the east station can only be reached via a steep trail that rises more than 500 meters from the Dadu River level to the village of Maping. Prior to the completion of the cable car in 2017, villagers used a simple ropeway with a small steel cage to transfer animals and other cargo goods across the Laochang gorge. For 2019 there are plans to open the Gulucun Cable Car to tourists. The east Maping station is 40 meters higher in elevation then the west station. Aerial Tramway
An aerial tramway, sky tram, cable car, ropeway, aerial tram, telepherique, or seilbahn is a type of aerial lift which uses one or two stationary ropes for support while a third moving rope provides propulsion. With this form of lift, the grip of an aerial tramway cabin is fixed onto the propulsion rope and cannot be decoupled from it during operations. In comparison to gondola lifts, aerial tramways generally provide lower line capacities and higher wait times. Dadu River
The Dadu River (), known in Tibetan as the Gyelmo Ngul Chu, is a major river located primarily in Sichuan province, southwestern China. The Dadu flows from the eastern Tibetan Plateau into the Sichuan Basin where it joins with the Min River, a tributary of the Yangtze River. Measured from its geographic source, the Dadu is actually longer than the Min and thus forms the main stem of the Min River system. Shuangjiangkou Dam, expected to be the tallest dam in the world, is being built on the Dadu River. Geography Source The Dadu River originates, in name, in Danba and ends in Leshan where it meets the Min River. 3S Cable Car
The tricable gondola lift, also known as the 3S gondola lift, is a cable car system that was developed by the Swiss company Von Roll transport systems in Thun to unite the benefits of a gondola lift with those of a reversible cable car system. '3S' is an abbreviation of the German word , meaning 'tricable'. History The first plant of this type, called ''Alpine Express I'', was built in 1991 in Saas-Fee. In 1994, a further section, called ''Alpine Express II'', became operational, although a continuous service of both sections is not possible. The cabins of these plants have space for 30 persons and travel with a speed of 6 m/s pulled by an endless hauling cable, and suspended from two carrying cables. Peak 2 Peak Gondola
The Peak 2 Peak Gondola is a tricable gondola lift at Whistler Blackcomb Resort in Whistler, British Columbia, linking Whistler Mountain's Roundhouse Lodge with Blackcomb Mountain's Rendezvous Lodge. It is the first lift to join the two side-by-side mountains. It held the world record for the longest free span between ropeway towers at 3.03 kilometres (1.88 miles) until 2017 when the Eibsee Cable Car exceeded it by 189 metres. It is still the highest point above the ground in a gondola at 436 metres (1,430 feet), although a temporary aerial tramway in Switzerland used between 1979 and 1986 had larger span. Chengdu–Kunming Railway
The Chengdu–Kunming railway or Chengkun railway (), is a major trunkline railroad in southwestern China between Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province and Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province. The line is long and traverses rugged terrain from the Sichuan Basin to the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The line was built between 1958 and 1970.
