Guillermo Simari
Guillermo Ricardo Simari is an Argentine computer scientist born in the city of Buenos Aires. He has headed the Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Lab (LIDIA) at National University of the South since 1990. Since December 2018, he is Professor Emeritus of Logic in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at National University of the South. He is co-editor of the Journal of Argument & Computation, and co-editor of the Argumentation Corner of the Journal of Logic and Computation with Francesca Toni and Phan Minh Dung. He earned his Ph.D. in 1989 at Washington University in St. Louis under the supervision of Ronald Loui. Defeasible Reasoning
In philosophical logic, defeasible reasoning is a kind of reasoning that is rationally compelling, though not deductively valid. It usually occurs when a rule is given, but there may be specific exceptions to the rule, or subclasses that are subject to a different rule. Defeasibility is found in literatures that are concerned with argument and the process of argument, or heuristic reasoning. Defeasible reasoning is a particular kind of non-demonstrative reasoning, where the reasoning does not produce a full, complete, or final demonstration of a claim, i.e., where fallibility and corrigibility of a conclusion are acknowledged. He is Augustus De Morgan Professor Emeritus of Logic at the Group of Logic, Language and Computation, Department of Computer Science, King's College London. Eduardo Fermé is an Argentinian computer scientist and philosopher known for his work in belief revision and non monotonic reasoning. He is Full Professor at the University of Madeira. Career Fermé studied Computer Science at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, graduating in 1991. After that, he obtained a doctoral degree in Computer Science from the Universidad de Buenos Aires under supervision of Carlos Alchourrón and Sven Ove Hansson in 1999. Ronald Prescott Loui is an American computer scientist, currently working as a professor of computer science at Case Western Reserve University. He is known for having supplied first-hand biographical information on Barack Obama about his time in Hawaii. Previously, he has been a professor at Washington University in St. Louis and University of Illinois Springfield.
