Taylor Valley is an ice-free valley about long, once occupied by the receding Taylor Glacier. It lies north of the Kukri Hills between the Taylor Glacier and New Harbour in Victoria Land, Antarctica. Taylor Valley is the southernmost of the three large McMurdo Dry Valleys in the Transantarctic Mountains, located west of McMurdo Sound. Exploration and naming The Taylor Valley was discovered by the British National Antarctic Expedition (BrNAE, 1901–04). It was more fully explored by the British Antarctic Expedition, 1907–09 (BrAE) and the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910–13. It was named after the Taylor Glacier. Von Guerard Glacier
Kukri Hills () is a prominent east-west trending range, about long and over high, forming the divide between Ferrar Glacier on the south and Taylor Glacier and Taylor Valley on the north, in Victoria Land, Antarctica. They are south of the Asgard Range, east of the Quartermain Mountains and north of the Royal Society Range. The hills were discovered by the Discovery Expedition (1901–04) and probably so named because its shape resembles that of the Kukri, a Gurkha knife. Topography The western tip of the Kukri Hills is Mount Brearley, where the Taylor Glacier separates from the Ferrar Glacier, with the Taylor Glacier flowing north east and the Ferrar glacier flowing southeast. Karl Theodor von Guérard (29 December 1863 – 21 July 1943) was a German jurist and politician of the Catholic Centre Party (German: ''Zentrum''). He served as Minister of Justice and Minister of Transport of the Weimar Republic in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Early life von Guérard was born on 29 December 1863 at Koblenz, as the son of Bernhard von Guérard (1825–1882), ''Obergerichtsprokurator'' and his wife Eleonore (1829–1905) née Kehrmann. The family of his father had emigrated from Lorraine in the 18th century, thus the French name. He studied jurisprudence and political sciences and then joined the Prussian civil service. From 1898 to 1905 he was ''Landrat'' at Mondschau, and then worked at the ''Oberpräsidium'' Koblenz, the administrative center of the Prussian Rhine Province. Robert Guérard (1641 – 2 January 1715) was a French Benedictine scholar of the Congregation of St. Maur. Life Guérard was born at Rouen. For some time, he collaborated at Saint-Denys in the Maurist edition of the works of Augustine of Hippo. In 1675, however, he had to leave Saint-Denys by order of Louis XIV, who wrongly suspected him of having had a hand in the publication of ', a work which severely criticized the practice of holding and bestowing abbeys, etc., ''in commendam''. His superior sent him to the monastery of Notre Dame at Ambronay, in the Diocese of Belley. While in exile, he discovered at the Carthusian monastery of Portes a manuscript of Augustine's ''Opus imperfectum'' against Julian of Eclanum, which was afterwards used in the Maurist edition of Augustine's works. Michel Robert-Guérard (; 27 March 1933 – 19 August 2024), known as Michel Guérard, was a French chef, author, one of the founders of '' nouvelle cuisine'' and the inventor of '' cuisine minceur''. Early life and education Michel Guérard was born in 1933 in the Paris suburb of Vétheuil. At age six, World War II broke out, and he was raised just outside Rouen with his grandmother and then his mother. In town, his mother ran the family butcher shop after his father was drafted. He had the "kind of French country childhood that involved wading into streams barefoot to catch slippery trout with his hands, but also Nazi interrogations regarding the location of his family’s cows." After liberation in 1944, he had an " Escoffier-style feast" at a family friend's home, helping inspire him to stop studying science in favor of apprenticing as a cook. Daniel Guérard
Daniel Guérard (born April 9, 1974) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Guerard was born in Montreal, Quebec, but grew up in LaSalle, Quebec. Playing career As a youth, Guérard played in the 1987 and 1988 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a minor ice hockey team from Verdun, Quebec. Guérard played two games for the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League during the 1994–95 NHL season. He was drafted 98th overall by the Senators in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft and joined the team in 1994. As well as the two games he played for the Senators in 94–95, he scored 20 goals for their farm team the Prince Edward Island Senators of the American Hockey League that season. However, injuries destroyed any potential he had, and only managed to score three times the next season.
