Guard Battalion (Moldova)
The Guard Battalion ( ro, Batalionul de Gardă) of the Moldovan National Army is a unit in the Moldovan Ground Forces. It is based in the capital of Chișinău, specifically at Military Camp 142. The battalion was formed on October 16, 1992. It shares the same birthday as the Independent Engineer Battalion "Codru" and the Communications and Informatics Center. It contributes to the qualitative training of the troops and to the technical assurance of the operations carried out by the National Army. Many officers and non-commissioned officers in the battalion are on duty 24 hours a day in the Guard Battalion, as well as in other units. It primarily ensures the conduct of protocol activities of the Ministry of Defence and state institutions, as well as the protection of major objectives. The Moldovan National Army ( ro, Armata Națională a Republicii Moldova) is the senior branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova composed of the Air Force and the Land Forces. The National Army is considered to be the regular duty military force while the other branch of the armed forces, the Trupele de Carabinieri, is focused on paramilitary activities. The Moldovan Ground Forces, known officially as Land Forces Command is the land armed-forces branch of the National Army of the Moldovan Armed Forces. Chișinău
Chișinău ( , , ), also known as Kishinev (russian: Кишинёв, r=Kishinjóv ), is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Moldova. The city is Moldova's main industrial and commercial center, and is located in the middle of the country, on the river Bâc, a tributary of the Dniester. Independent Engineer Battalion "Codru"
The Independent Engineer Battalion "Codru" () is the engineering formation of the Moldovan National Army, based in the village of Negrești, Strășeni District. Soldiers of the battalion soldiers have been on international missions, including the Kosovo Force mission in Kosovo. History The battalion was formed on 16 October 1992. It was created to assist the regular army during the Transnistrian War in the early 90's. It was the first unit of the National Army to be decorated by presidential decree with the state order "Faith of the Fatherland", class I. Members of the unit deployed to Iraq both in 2003 and 2008. Honor Guard Company (Moldova)
The Honor Guard Company of the Moldovan National Army is an honor guard unit of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova. Founded on 22 June 1992, it is part of the National Army's Guard Battalion. To be eligible for the honor guard, one should be at least , have strong health, and have a pleasant appearance. Activities The unit participates in over 250 ceremonies, including the ceremonies of the appointment of foreign diplomats, and state award ceremonies and welcome ceremonies. The members of the company also have participated in military parades in Romania, Bulgaria, France, Ukraine and other countries. Nicolae Timofti (; born 22 December 1948 in Ciutulești, Moldavian SSR) is a Moldovan jurist and politician who was President of Moldova from 23 March 2012 until 23 December 2016. He served as head of Moldova's Supreme Magistrate Council and was elected President by parliament on 16 March 2012. Early life and education Timofti was born to Elena (born 1927) and Vasile Timofti in Ciutulești, Moldavian SSR, Soviet Union, and has four siblings.
