Guangdong–Hong Kong Cup
The Guangdong–Hong Kong Cup () is a football competition between two teams representing Hong Kong and Guangdong Province of China respectively. It was established in 1979. History In April 1977, the Guangdong team visited Hong Kong for the first time and played two friendly matches. Within its staying period, the officials of Guangdong and Hong Kong football started a discussion on the possibility of establishing an annual competition between them. In June 1978, the Hong Kong national football team visited China and finished its trip with a match against the Guangdong team. HKFA chairman Mr. Hui Chun Fui and the official in Guangdong then reached a basic agreement of having a competition between the teams again next year. On 7 December 1978, the contract of establishing Guangdong–Hong Kong Cup was signed. The first competition started on 21 January 1979. Hong Kong Football Association
The Football Association of Hong Kong, China Limited (HKFA; ) is the governing body of association football in Hong Kong, People's Republic of China. Its current chairman is Eric Fok. History The HKFA was established in 1914. It is one of the oldest football federations in Asia and is responsible for organising various Hong Kong football league, football competitions including professional and amateur leagues, football development and promoting football in Hong Kong. Ross Greer (footballer)
Ross Greer (born 23 September 1967) is a retired footballer. He played for Floreat Athena, Chester City, South China, Selangor, Eastern, Instant-Dict, Sorrento, Melbourne Knights and Leeming Strikers before retiring. Born in Australia, he represented the Hong Kong national football team. Career Greer's spell playing in The Football League in England in late 1989 with Chester was short-lived. In four first–team games (two in cup football) he failed to find the net for Chester and scored an own–goal in a 2–0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town. He was not awarded a long–term contract. In 1995, Greer was capped three times for the Hong Kong national football team. He also played briefly for the Hong Kong national cricket team, representing Hong Kong in matches against Singapore and Thailand at the 1993 Tuanku Ja'afar Cup. Hong Kong Stadium
Hong Kong Stadium is the main sports venue of Hong Kong. Redeveloped from the original Government Stadium, it reopened as Hong Kong Stadium in March 1994. It has a maximum seating capacity of 40,000, including 18,260 at the main level, 3,173 at executive level, 18,510 upper-level seats and 57 seats for wheelchair users. The stadium is located in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong Island, in valley of Caroline Hill. It hosted the 1956 AFC Asian Cup, inaugural AFC Asian Cup finals and the AFC Women's Asian Cup for four times. Yuexiushan Stadium
The Yuexiushan Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, named after its location at the foot of Yuexiu Hill. It is currently mostly used for Association football, football matches and also sometimes for athletics. It is located on 34 Yingyuan Road. The stadium is owned by the Guangzhou Sports Bureau. The original stadium at the same location opened before 1926. In 1950, it was completely rebuilt with a capacity for 35,000 people. Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup 1978–79 is the 1st staging of this two-leg competition between Hong Kong and Guangdong. The first leg was played in Guangzhou on 21 January 1979 while the second leg was played in Hong Kong Stadium on 28 January 1979. Panyu
Panyu, formerly romanized as Punyü, is one of 11 urban districts of the prefecture-level city of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, China. Since January 1975, Panyu County has been under Guangzhou's administration. In 1992, Panyu County was renamed to Panyu county-level city, still under Guangzhou's administration. Su Maozhen
Su Maozhen (; born 30 July 1972) is a Chinese football coach and former international player. As a player, he spent his whole career with Shandong Luneng as a striker where he won several league and cups with them as well as being a regular for the Chinese national team, playing at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. After his retirement as a player he eventually moved into management where he started off as an assistant before becoming the head coach of the China under-20 national team. Club career Early on in his career, Su had two brief trial periods with Manchester United in the 1989–90 and 1991–92 seasons, during which he made a number of appearances for the Junior A team alongside future stars such as Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Paul Scholes.
