Alfred Grosser
Alfred Grosser (1 February 1925 – 7 February 2024) was a German-born French writer, sociologist and political scientist. Although his Jewish family had to move from Frankfurt to France in 1933, he focused on Franco-German cooperation after World War II, was instrumental in the Élysée Treaty in 1963, and writing books towards better understanding between the Germans and the French. He was professor at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris from 1955 to 1995, and contributed to newspapers and broadcasts including ''La Croix (newspaper), La Croix'' and ''Ouest-France''. He was critical of Israeli politics which caused controversies. His work was honoured with notable awards. Life and career Early life Grosser was born in Frankfurt on 1 February 1925. Arthur Grosser is an American actor and chemist who was a professor of physical chemistry at McGill University, Montreal. Lily Emilie Grosser (2 June 1894 – 20 September 1968) was a German-born French activist. A medal winner for her activism in Germany during World War I, Grosser and her family fled to France in 1933, where she was granted citizenship in 1937. After the war she became secretary of the French Committee for Exchange with the New Germany and was instrumental in building political and cultural Franco-German relations. Life Lily Emilie Rosenthal, daughter of Alfred Rosenthal, was born into a Jewish middle-class household in Frankfurt. Until she was 18, she was allowed to leave the house on Mendelssohn Street in Frankfurt's Westend only in the company of a governess. Maurice Grosser (October 23, 1903 – December 22, 1986) was an American painter, art critic, and writer. Biography Maurice Grosser was born on October 23, 1903, in Huntsville, Alabama. Grosser attended Harvard University where he studied mathematics, graduating with honors in 1924. While at university, a friend brought Grosser to a life painting class at the Boston Architectural School. From then on he continued life drawing there and at the South Boston Art School. While at Harvard, Grosser also took painting classes from Denman Ross. While still a student, Grosser's paintings were displayed at the Fogg Art Museum. Grosser was awarded Harvard's Sheldon Fellowship which allowed him to study painting in France. Philip Grosser (1890 in Slavuta – October 3, 1933 in Boston) was an anarchist and anti-militarist, hailed by fellow anarchist, Alexander Berkman, as "one of yfinest comrades". He was imprisoned at the Federal Military Prison on Alcatraz Island, having refused the draft during the first World War. By the end of 1920, two years after the war ended, he was the only remaining conscientious objector at Alcatraz, and in poor health. Grosser is notable for writing one of the first exposés of Alcatraz Prison, the 32-page pamphlet ''Uncle Sam's Devil's Island'', which told of his experience in the prison. Thomas Grosser (10 April 1965 – 12 February 2008 in Unterhaching) was a German football player. Grosser came to SpVgg Unterhaching in 1983; before he played in the youth department of FC Bayern Munich and TSV Forstenried. In 1989, he became a midfield player with Unterhaching from Bavaria League in the 2. Bundesliga and completed the season 1989–90 (26 games) with one goal for his club.
