Roberta Gropper
Roberta Gropper (16 August 1897 - 1 February 1993) was a German Communist Party of Germany, Communist political activist who became a member of the Reichstag (Weimar Republic), Reichstag (national parliament) in 1930. In 1934 she fled to the Soviet Union where she fell victim to party factionalism and spent more than three years in a concentration camp: this was followed by a Siberian exile. She was able to return to Berlin in 1947 and became a mainstream politician in the German Democratic Republic, German Democratic Republic (''East Germany''). Life Early years Roberta Gropper was born in Memmingen, a mid-sized town in the hills to the south of Ulm. Her father was a weaver. Johann Gropper (John or ; 24 February 1503 – 13 March 1559) was a German cardinal and church politician of the Reformation period. Early life: follower of Erasmus After being made keeper of the seal of the archbishopric of Cologne, he was appointed scholasticus of St. Gerson in 1527. Gropper was an adherent of Erasmus, and aided the reform efforts of Hermann von Wied, archbishop of Cologne. This led him, after having completed his legal studies at Cologne in 1525, to devote himself to theological study. He edited the ''Landrecht'' of Cologne, and also the canons of the provincial council at Cologne held in 1536 (both published in 1538, together with a detailed manual of Christian doctrine which he had composed). Philipp Gropper (born 1978 in West Berlin, West-Berlin) is a German composer and Saxophone, saxophonist of jazz and of the modern creative style. Biography From 1999 to 2006, Gropper studied jazz with Jerry Granelli, Peter Weniger and David Friedman (percussionist), David Friedman at the Berlin University of the Arts, Universität der Künste Berlin. From 2000 to 2002 he played in the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer, and was the first tenor saxophonist of the ensemble. Gropper's own bands are ''Hyperactive Kid'' with Ronny Graupe and Christian Lillinger, ''Philipp Gropper's Philm'' (founded in 2011) with Elias Stemeseder, Andreas Lang and Oliver Steidle, and ''TAU'' (founded in 2013) with Philip Zoubek, Petter Eldh and Julian Sartorius.
