Gronya Somerville
Gronya Somerville (born 10 May 1995) is an Australian badminton player specializing in doubles. She has won nine Oceania Championships titles, six in the women's doubles and three in the mixed doubles. Personal life Somerville, born to an Australian mother of Anglo-Celtic origin and a Chinese father, became famous when it was revealed that she is the descendant of a prominent Qing dynasty political reformer, Kang Youwei. She is studying exercise science at Victoria University. Career Somerville's skills were discovered during a badminton talent identification program which she attended after receiving a flyer from her primary school PE teacher when she was about 12 or 13. Born in Melbourne in 1995, Somerville first captured the media's attention as a young player in 2012 at the Uber Cup in China. 2016 Oceania Badminton Championships
The XI 2016 Oceania Badminton Championships were held as two events in different counties. From 16 to 21 February, the team event was held in Auckland, New Zealand. From 25 to 28 April, the individual event was held in Papeete, Tahiti. Venue *X-TRM North Harbour Badminton Centre in Auckland, New Zealand for the team event, and Punaauia University Hall, within the University of French Polynesia in Papeete, Tahiti for the individual event. Badminton events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games took place between Thursday 24 July and Sunday 3 August at the newly built Emirates Arena, in Glasgow. Badminton is one of ten core sports at the Commonwealth Games and has been continuously held at the Games since its first appearance at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica. The 2012 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 27th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 24th international badminton tournament of the Uber Cup. It was held from May 20–27, 2012 at the Wuhan Sports Center Stadium in Wuhan, China. Host city selection Jakarta (Indonesia) and Wuhan (China) submitted bids for the competition. Kang Youwei (; Cantonese: ''Hōng Yáuh-wàih''; 19March 185831March 1927) was a political thinker and reformer in China of the late Qing dynasty. His increasing closeness to and influence over the young Guangxu Emperor sparked conflict between the emperor and his adoptive mother, the regent Empress Dowager Cixi. His ideas were influential in the abortive Hundred Days' Reform. Following the coup by Cixi that ended the reform, Kang was forced to flee.
