Grolloo
Grolloo is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 11 km southeast of Assen. History The village was probably first mentioned in the 12th century as Grunlo, and means "green open forest". Grolloo is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Early Middle Ages on the Hondsrug as a satellite of Rolde. The village has two ''essen'' (communal pastures) on the east-side and a little ''brink'' (village square). From 1550 until 1669, the ''Landdag'' (legislative assembly) of the province of Drenthe was held in Grollerholt, a forest near Grollo. The Dutch Reformed church dates from 1853, and has a wooden tower with a needle spire. The tower contains a bell from 1422. The church was restored in 1975. Grollo was home to 272 people in 1840. Harry Muskee
Harry "Cuby" Muskee (10 June 1941 – 26 September 2011) was the singer of the blues band Cuby + Blizzards, which he co-founded with Eelco Gelling. Muskee was born in Assen, and died in Rolde aged 70. Biography Muskee was born in the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen. Early on, he lived with his mother at his grandmother's place, because his father was captured and transported to Germany. Only after the war – when he was four years old – he saw his father for the first time. The family moved to Rotterdam, but returned to Assen after two years. His mother suffered from multiple sclerosis and could not properly care for her child. Because his father, a fire chief, was mostly away from home, his grandmother largely took care of Muskee. At fifteen he went for his first guitar lessons. At high school he came into contact with jazz and Dixieland music. Aa en Hunze () is a municipality in the northeastern Netherlands. The names 'Aa' (more precisely the ' Drentsche Aa') and 'Hunze' refer to two small rivers through the municipality. Assen () is a municipality and a city in the northeastern Netherlands, and is the capital of the province of Drenthe. It received city rights in 1809. Rolde
Rolde () is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. Located in the municipality of Aa en Hunze, it lies about 6 km (3.7 mi) east of Assen. In 2021, Rolde had a population of 3,905. History Rolde was a separate municipality until 1998, when it became a part of the newly-established municipality of Aa en Hunze. The spur of the Hondsrug in Groningen has led to the creation of various villages build on artificial dwelling hills: Adorp, Sauwerd, Wetsinge, Winsum, Baflo, Rasquert, Warffum, Usquert, Rottum. The name "''Hondsrug''" would appear to be taken from the Dutch word for "dog" or "hound" (''hond'') and the word for a "back" or "ridge" (''rug''). However, it is more likely a bastardization of the older name ''Hunze-rug'', coming from the name of the Hunze River, which flows through Drenthe and Groningen. Up until the 19th century the ''Hondsrug'' was also known as the ''Bisschopsrug'', meaning "Bishop's Ridge". Postal codes in the Netherlands, known as ''postcodes'', are alphanumeric, consisting of four digits followed by two uppercase letters.
