Groep Fan Auwerk
Groep fan Auwerk ("Group of Aurich") is a political activism organization that advocates for an independent Frisian state (Frisia). The group is active in politics and promotes a stronger Frisian identity. History Groep fan Auwerk was founded in 2003 and organized its platform. In 2005 they made an application for the Frisian nationality to be recognized by the provincial house of parliament in Leeuwarden and ultimately the Frisian nationality was accepted by the European Union. After that, they made a "FRL" (Friesland) license plate sticker to replace the official "NL" (Netherlands). On 23 September 2006, Groep fan Auwerk presented a proposal for an Inter-Frisian flag, intended to represent all Frisian regions, but was rejected by the Interfrisian Council in June 2007. Frisia () is a Cross-border region, cross-border Cultural area, cultural region in Northwestern Europe. Stretching along the Wadden Sea, it encompasses the north of the Netherlands and parts of northwestern Germany. Leeuwarden
Leeuwarden (; ; ; ) is a List of cities in the Netherlands by province, city and Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality in Friesland, Netherlands, with a population of 127,073 (2023). It is the provincial capital and seat of the Provincial Council of Friesland. The region has been continuously inhabited since the 10th century. The Interfrisian Council is a geopolitical organization that represents the common interests of the Frisians. The organization consists of three regional councils or "sections": North Frisia, East Frisia and West Frisia. Wymbritseradiel
Wymbritseradeel (; official ) was a rural municipality () in the Dutch province of Friesland from 1984 until 2011. An earlier type of municipality () of the same name existed from 1500 until 1984. History Wymbritseradeel was formed from the division of the medieval district of Waghenbrugghe. The '' grietenij'' of Wymbritseradeel was created in 1500 as Frisian cities became independent and several grietenij were split on the south side of the area. The boundaries of Wymbritseradeel remained unchanged until 1984. From 1625 until the introduction of the municipal law in 1851, the grietman of Wymbritseradeel lived in the stins of Epemastate in IJsbrechtum ().
