Grenff
The Grenff, also Grenf, is a 22 km long, southeasterly tributary of Schwalm. It passes through the East Hesse Highlands in North Hesse Schwalm-Eder-Kreis, and belongs to the river system and catchment area of the Weser. Course The Grenff rises in Ottrauer Highland, a part of the Fulda-Haune Plateau in East Hesse Highlands, in the transition area to the Knüllgebirge. The source is 1.2 km southeast of the village Görzhain (municipality Ottrau) in a clearing of the northern flank of the ''Frohnkreuzkopf'' (about ), the western spur of the Rimberg (591.8 m), at about 395 m elevation. The Grenff initiall flows north-west, to and through Görzhain. From there on the Bad Hersfeld–Treysa railway (also ''Knüllwald railway'') runs through the Grenff valley. The Schwalm is a river in Hesse, Germany, right tributary of the Eder. It rises on the north side of the Vogelsberg Mountains. It flows north through Alsfeld, Schwalmstadt and Borken. Rimberg (Knüll) The Rimberg in the Knüll Mountains (''Knüll'') is 1,942' above sea level. A massive mountain near in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in northern Hesse Germany. Geography Location The Rimberg lies in the southern foothills of the Knüllgebirge in the southwest part of the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district between the towns of Alsfeld in the west-southwest and Bad Hersfeld in the east-northeast. Its summit rises around 9 km southwest of Kirchheim, about 4 km northwest of Breitenbach am Herzberg, 1.6 km north-northwest of Gehau, 3.4 km southeast of Görzhain and 1.8 km southwest of Machtlos. East Hesse Highlands
The East Hesse Highlands (german: Osthessisches Bergland) describes a heavily wooded range of hills lying mainly in the German state of Hesse, but also extending a little way into Lower Saxony to the north, Thuringia to the east and Bavaria to the southeast. The region is sandwiched between the West Hesse Depression to the west, the Weser Uplands to the north, the Thuringian Basin to the northeast, the northwestern edge of the Thuringian Forest to the east, the Spessart to the south and the Wetterau to the southwest. The East Hesse Highlands forms a natural region (no. 35 or D47) and is both part of the European Central Uplands as well as the Rhine-Weser watershed. Eder (Fulda)
The Eder is a -long major river in Germany that begins in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia and passes in to Hesse, where it empties into the River Fulda. History The river was first mentioned by the Roman historian Tacitus. In his Annals, he describes the Roman campaign against the Chatti under the command of Germanicus in 15 AD. Forty-five thousand soldiers of the Roman army destroyed the major centre of the Chatti, Mattium, directly after they crossed the ''Adrana'' (Eder). In the Middle Ages, the river was known by the names; Aderna, Adarna, Adrina. On the banks of the Eder, in the town of Schwarzenau, near Bad Berleburg, a religious group was founded in August 1708; the Schwarzenau Brethren. Eight adults were completely baptised thrice in the Eder. This group emigrated to America where they are still to be found.
