Greg Pason
Gregory Pason (born April 19, 1966) is an American political candidate, activist, and National Secretary of the Socialist Party USA, a position he has held for over 20 years. Additionally, Pason has served in various positions in the Socialist Party of New Jersey and Northern New Jersey Socialist Party, currently serving as treasurer of the former and chair of the latter. Career Pason joined the Party in 1989, shortly after joining the Party's official youth arm, the Young People's Socialist League (YPSL). As the National Secretary, Pason runs the day-to-day business of the Party, out of the national office in New York City. New Jersey Gubernatorial Election, 2009
The 2009 New Jersey gubernatorial election took place on November 3, 2009. Incumbent Democratic Governor Jon Corzine ran for a second term against Republican Chris Christie, Independent Christopher Daggett and nine others, in addition to several write-in candidates. Christie won the election, with about 48.5 percent of the vote, to 44.9 percent for Corzine and 5.8 percent for Daggett. Christie assumed office on January 19, 2010. This was the first election to fill the newly created office of lieutenant governor, with the candidates for governor choosing their running mates. Kim Guadagno, Christie's running mate, became New Jersey's first lieutenant governor following her inauguration. Christie won the largest margin for a non-incumbent Republican since 1969. New Jersey's 9th Congressional District
New Jersey's 9th congressional district is represented in Congress by Democrat Bill Pascrell, who resides in Paterson. Congressman Pascrell was first elected in 1996 from the old 8th district (prior to the 2010 census), defeating incumbent William J. Martini. The 9th district consists largely of municipalities in Bergen County and Passaic County. Due to redistricting following the 2010 Census, portions of the old 9th district were shifted to the 5th district and the new 8th district, as part of a reduction in congressional districts from 13 to 12 in New Jersey. The 1997 New Jersey gubernatorial election was a race for Governor of New Jersey. It was held on November 4, 1997. In the Democratic primary state senator and Woodbridge Township mayor James McGreevey defeated pre-primary front-runner Rep. Rob Andrews by 9,993 votes. Although incumbent Republican Governor Christine Todd Whitman had a comfortable lead in polls in the run up to the vote, on election night she prevailed over McGreevey by a narrow margin of 26,953 votes (1.05%), a similarly narrow margin to her previous election. The 2002 United States Senate election in New Jersey was held on November 5, 2002. The race was to originally feature Democrat Robert Torricelli against former West Windsor Township mayor Douglas Forrester, who had won the Republican nomination. Torricelli had won the seat when former Senator Bill Bradley elected not to run for a fourth term in 1996. Torricelli, however, had been the target of an ethics probe and eventually dropped out of the race in late September 2002.
