Greg Gibson (wrestler)
Gregory P. Gibson (born November 20, 1953) is an United States, American former wrestler who competed in the 100 kg weight division. He is the only American to win World medals in three styles of wrestling — Freestyle wrestling, Freestyle, Greco-Roman wrestling, Greco-Roman and Sambo (martial art), Sambo. While serving with the U.S. Marines, stationed at Quantico, Virginia, he won a silver medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Greco-Roman, as well as two silver and a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling at the World Wrestling Championships, World Championships from 1981 to 1983. Background Gibson graduated from Shasta High School in Redding, California in 1972. He wrestled at the University of Oregon where he became a two-time NCAA All-American. Gibson joined the United States Marine Corps in 1978 and retired as a Master Sergeant in 2003. Gregory Allan Gibson (born October 2, 1968) is an American former Major League Baseball umpire who worked in the National League from 1997 to 1999 and throughout both major leagues from 2000 to 2022. He was promoted to crew chief for the 2022 season. Umpiring career Gibson has worked two Wild Card Games (2012, 2013), ten Division Series (2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2021), five National League Championship Series (2005, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018), the 2011 World Series, and the 2008 All-Star Game. He has also officiated in two World Baseball Classics (2009, 2013). Gibson was the home plate umpire for Randy Johnson's perfect game on May 18, , as well as Tim Wakefield's 200th win. Gregory Gibson (born July 10, 1945, in Athol, Massachusetts) is an American author. Gibson is the author of ''Gone Boy: A Walkabout'' (Kodansha, 1999), ''Demon of the Waters'' (Little, Brown, 2004), ''Hubert's Freaks'' (Harcourt, 2008). ''The Old Turk's Load'' (Mysterious Press, 2013), and ''Mooney’s Manifesto''Spuyten Duyvil Publishing 2023)" After receiving his BA from Swarthmore College in 1967, Gibson enlisted in the United States Navy and worked as a shipfitter until 1971. After his discharge he moved to Gloucester, Massachusetts and was variously employed as a house painter, cab driver, and construction worker. In 1974 he married Anne Marie Crotty, and in 1976 he opened Ten Pound Island Book Company, and began his career as an antiquarian book dealer. Gregory C. Gibson (he/him) (born 25 July 1963) is a professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), where he is also director of the Center for Integrative Genomics. Biography Gibson grew up in Canberra, Australia. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Sydney in Australia in 1985, and his Ph.D. from the University of Basel in Switzerland in 1989. He was an assistant professor at the University of Michigan from 1994 to 1998, where he received a fellowship from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
