Greg Garrison (musician)
Greg Garrison (born 1974) is an American bassist. He is best known for his work with Leftover Salmon and Mighty Poplar. He was also a founding member of the Punch Brothers. Biography Greg Garrison was born in Edina, MN on July 16, 1974. He discovered music at an early age and began playing the bass in the fifth grade. His family moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois, where he attended Rolling Meadows High School along with Yonder Mountain String Band’s Jeff Austin. After high school they both attended the University of Illinois where they met Austin’s future bandmate Dave Johnston. Upon graduation Garrison moved to Colorado where he played in Fireweed with Austin and Johnston and in an early version of the Motet. He would join Leftover Salmon in 2000 when bassist Tye North left the band. Garrison has played with Salmon since. The Motet
The Motet is an American funk, soul and jazz influenced group based in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1998 by drummer and bandleader Dave Watts, The Motet is Watts, guitarist Ryan Jalbert, bassist Garrett Sayers, keyboardist Joey Porter, saxophonist Drew Sayers and singer Sarah Clarke. Known for energetic live shows including an annual Halloween concert, the band has released seven studio albums. Noam David Pikelny (born February 27, 1981) is an American banjoist. He is a member of the groups Punch Brothers, Mighty Poplar and was previously in Leftover Salmon as well as the John Cowan Band. Pikelny is a nine-time Grammy Award nominee, winning once in 2019 for Best Folk Album. Early life, family and education Pikelny was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in nearby Skokie, Illinois. He started playing banjo when he was 8 years old. He took lessons at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music. In high school, he began studying with Greg Cahill of the Chicago bluegrass band The Special Consensus. Chris Eldridge
Chris Eldridge (born June 27, 1982) is a Grammy Award winning American guitarist and singer. He is a member of Punch Brothers and frequently performs in a duo with fellow guitarist Julian Lage. He was the guitarist in the house band on Prairie Home Companion/Live From Here from 2016-2020. He was also a founding member of the bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters. His father is noted banjoist Ben Eldridge of the Seldom Scene. His nephew, Bryce Eldridge, is a highly touted prospect in the San Francisco Giants system in MLB. ''Punch'' is the debut album by Punch Brothers. It was released by Nonesuch Records on February 26, 2008. The centerpiece of the album is mandolinist Chris Thile's ambitious four movement suite, "The Blind Leaving the Blind". Thile says the piece was written in part to deal with his divorce of 2004. It was composed over the course of a year and a half using Finale composition software. About 30% of the composition involves some improvisation, "like a jazz lead sheet or a written out fiddle tune".
