Greg Beals
Greg Beals (born February 9, 1970) is an American college baseball coach and former catcher, who is the current head baseball coach of the Marshall Thundering Herd. Beals played college baseball at Kent State University from 1989 to 1991 for coach Danny Hall. He previously served as head coach at Ball State (2003–2010) and the Ohio State Buckeyes (2011–2022). Playing career Beals was a three-year letterman at catcher for Kent State, batting .306 for his career and earning honorable mention All-MAC honors. He was drafted by the New York Mets in the 21st Round of the 1991 MLB Draft and played three seasons professionally, reaching high Class-A and playing on division-winning teams in each season. Coaching career After ending his playing career, Beals became an assistant coach at Kent State, working primarily on recruiting. Marshall Thundering Herd Baseball
The Marshall Thundering Herd baseball team represents the Marshall University in NCAA Division I college baseball and competes in the Sun Belt Conference. The current head coach of the Herd is Greg Beals. Marshall currently plays their conference home games off-campus in Charleston, West Virginia at Appalachian Power Park. NCAA Division I Baseball Championship
The NCAA Division I Baseball Championship is held each year from May through June and features 64 college baseball teams in the United States, culminating in the eight-team Men's College World Series at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. Tournament format The tournament is unique in that it features four tiers of competition, alternating between double-elimination brackets and best-of-three series. In fact, throughout the entire 64-team tournament, a team can lose a total of four games and still be crowned champions. During team selection, sixteen teams are given "national seeds". The top eight of these teams automatically host a super regional if they advance past the regional round, assuming that they have the facilities to do so. The 2005 Mid-American Conference baseball tournament took place in May 2005. The top six regular season finishers met in the double-elimination tournament held at Stanley G. McKie Field at Joseph P. Mid-American Conference
The Mid-American Conference (MAC) is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I collegiate athletic conference with a membership base in the Great Lakes region that stretches from Western New York to Illinois. Nine of the twelve full member schools are in Ohio and Michigan, with single members located in Illinois, Indiana, and New York. For football, the MAC participates in the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision. Akron Zips Baseball
The Akron Zips baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate athletic team representing the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, United States. The team plays in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level as a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The program plays at Skeeles Field, which had been the Zips' home from 1967 to 2015. The program was established in early 1873 during the school's first academic year and played in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) from 1954 to 1966, the Ohio Valley Conference from 1981 through 1987, and the Mid-Continent Conference for the 1990, 1991, and 1992 seasons.
