The Greenpoint Renaissance Enterprise Corporation (GREC) is a consortium of neighborhood organizations in North Brooklyn that serves to facilitate and advocate the activities for city initiatives, as well as coordinate community involvement in the neighborhood of the former Greenpoint Hospital Complex.Lang, Frank. Community-supported agriculture (CSA model) or cropsharing is a system that connects producers and consumers within the food system closer by allowing the consumer to subscribe to the harvest of a certain farm or group of farms. It is an alternative socioeconomic model of agriculture and food distribution that allows the producer and consumer to share the risks of farming. The model is a subcategory of civic agriculture that has an overarching goal of strengthening a sense of community through local markets. In return for subscribing to a harvest, subscribers receive either a weekly or bi-weekly box of produce or other farm goods. This includes in-season fruits, vegetables, and can expand to dried goods, eggs, milk, meat, etc. Typically, farmers try to cultivate a relationship with subscribers by sending weekly letters of what is happening on the farm, inviting them for harvest, or holding an open-farm event. Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) is a process mandated by the 1975 revision of the New York City Charter that is invoked when a proposed development will affect certain legal protections afforded to the existing area and/or its inhabitants. The standardization of the ULURP creates an democratizing aspect of greater public involvement and thus a degree of transparency into future effects of proposed developments that result in consequences as defined in section 197-c of the Charter. Greenpoint Hospital
Greenpoint Hospital (300 Skillman Avenue) was a hospital located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It opened in 1914 and closed in 1982. As of 2016 final disposition of the hospital site's ten buildings were still pending. History The hospital initially had six buildings. Talk in 1959 of closing part of the hospital pending "modernization" and a 1968 "crash program to remedy decaying conditions" were part of the hospital's last decades. At the time of ''Greenpoints closing, ''Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center'' was deemed to be the community's replacement. Controversy over this matter existed since ''Woodhull'' "was completed in 1978 but stood empty for four years because the city said it could not afford to operate it."
