Green Party Of Vancouver
The Green Party of Vancouver, founded in 1984, is a municipal political party in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is affiliated with both the provincial Green Party of British Columbia and the federal Green Party of Canada. Roslyn Cassells was the first elected Green in Canada and was elected to the Vancouver Park Board in the 1999 Vancouver municipal election. In 2002, Andrea Reimer was elected to the Vancouver School Board as a trustee, and in 2008 Stuart Mackinnon was elected a park board commissioner. The party nominated Green Party of Canada deputy leader Adriane Carr as their sole nominee for Vancouver City Council during the 2011 Vancouver municipal election. Carr subsequently won the seat. Carr retained her council seat during the 2014 Vancouver municipal election, winning with the highest number of votes of any council candidate. 2022 Vancouver Municipal Election
The 2022 Vancouver municipal election was held on October 15, 2022, the same day as the 2022 British Columbia municipal elections, municipal elections held throughout British Columbia. Voters elected the mayor of Vancouver by First-past-the-post voting, first-past-the-post. Ten Vancouver City Council, city councillors, 7 Vancouver Park Board, park board commissioners, and 9 Vancouver School Board, school board trustees were elected through plurality at-large voting. In addition, voters were presented with 3 capital plan questions. Across the city, 171,494 voters cast ballots. ABC Vancouver won seven of the 11 seats on council, electing its entire slate. Fred Bass
Fred Bass is a former city councillor, environmentalist and a preventive medicine physician in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As an epidemiologist and physician, he focused on reducing tobacco smoking. He served on Vancouver City Council from 1999 to 2005. Background Bass was born in New York City, attended Antioch College, Case-Western Reserve Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, and Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. He served as a preventive medicine officer in the US Army's 7th Infantry Division in Korea and Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. A percentage point or percent point is the unit (measurement), unit for the difference (mathematics), arithmetic difference between two percentages. For example, moving up from 40 percent to 44 percent is an increase of 4 percentage points (although it is a 10-percent increase in the quantity being measured, if the total amount remains the same). Paul Watson
Paul Franklin Watson (born December 2, 1950) is a Canadian-American environmental, conservation and animal rights activist, who founded the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an anti-poaching and direct action group focused on marine conservation activism. The tactics used by Sea Shepherd have attracted opposition, with the group accused of eco-terrorism by both the Japanese government and Greenpeace. Watson is a citizen of Canada and the United States. Watson, a native of Toronto, has been an environmental activist since his teens. He joined a Sierra Club protest against nuclear testing in 1969 and crewed onboard the Greenpeace Too in November 1971, to oppose nuclear testing at Amchitka Island in the Aleutians. 1996 Vancouver Municipal Election
The city of Vancouver, Canada, held municipal elections in Canada, municipal elections on November 16, 1996. Canadian citizens who were over 18 years of age at the time of the vote, and had been a resident of Vancouver for the previous 30 days and a resident of British Columbia for the previous six months, were able to vote for candidates in four races that were presented on one ballot. In addition, Canadian citizen non-resident property owners were eligible to vote. The ballot elected one mayor, ten councillors, nine School Board trustees and seven Park Board commissioners. ABC Vancouver
ABC Vancouver, formerly A Better City, is a municipal political party in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is led by incumbent mayor Ken Sim. History Formation Three of five city councillors elected under the NPA banner in the 2018 Vancouver municipal election – Rebecca Bligh, Lisa Dominato, and Sarah Kirby-Yung – joined ABC Vancouver and ran with the party in the 2022 Vancouver municipal election. Jean Swanson (born ) is a Canadian politician, anti-poverty activist, and writer in Vancouver, British Columbia. She represented the left-wing Coalition of Progressive Electors on Vancouver City Council as one of Vancouver's 10 at-large city councillors from 2018 to 2022. Hector Bremner is a Canadian politician, who served as a member of the Vancouver City Council in Vancouver, British Columbia, from 2017 to 2018. The Non-Partisan Association (NPA) is a municipal political party in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was established by the city's business leaders in 1937 to challenge the democratic socialist British Columbia CCF, Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) in that year's municipal election. The party has historically been described as centre-right and drawn its strongest support from Vancouver's business community. Pete Fry is a Canadian politician and business owner in Vancouver, British Columbia, who has served as councillor on the Vancouver City Council since 2018.
