Green Party (Bulgaria)
The Green Party () is an environmentalist political party in Bulgaria. It was founded in Sofia in 1989 by Aleksandar Karakachanov, who later went on to become the chairperson of the party. History The Green Party was established on December 28, 1989 by Alexander Karakachanov. It consisted of activists from the " Ecoglasnost" movement. Right after its formation, the party joined the Union of the Democratic Forces in Bulgaria (UDF), which was then a broad coalition of anti-totalitarian political parties and organizations. The party had 17 representatives in the 7th Grand National Assembly, where it was the initiator and submitter of the proposal for the Bulgaria's accession to the European Union. The National Movement for Stability and Progress (, NDSV) is a liberal, populist political party in Bulgaria. It was known as the National Movement Simeon II () until 3 June 2007. The party was created as a personal vehicle of Simeon of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (Simeon II), the last Bulgarian Tsar (albeit nominally), who was deposed following the 1944 Bulgarian coup d'état, for his successful bid to become Prime Minister of Bulgaria in 2001. Movement For Rights And Freedoms
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms ( ''Dvizhenie za prava i svobodi'', ДПС, DPS; , HÖH) is a political party in Bulgaria with a support base among ethnic minority communities. Until 2024 it was a member of the Liberal International and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). While representing the interests of Muslims, especially Turks and to a lesser extent Pomaks (Muslim Bulgarians), the party also receives the largest share of Romani votes. Philip Dimitrov Dimitrov ( ; born 31 March 1955) is a Bulgarian politician, Prime Minister of Bulgaria 1991–2, MP in the 36th (1991–1994), 37th (1994–1997) and the 40th (2005–2007) National Assembly, and MEP from January 2007 to May 2007. An election of the Members of the European Parliament from Bulgaria to the European Parliament was held on 25 May 2014 as part of the larger European Parliament election. After a decision by the European Council in 2013, Bulgaria was allocated 17 seats in the European Parliament for the Eighth European Parliament. The election campaign officially began on 25 April 2014, one month before the election day. Background The elections come a year after the 2013 parliamentary elections in Bulgaria that resulted in a minority parliament. 2007 European Parliament Election In Bulgaria
European Parliament elections were held in Bulgaria on 20 May 2007. It was the country's first European election, having joined the Union on 1 January of that year. The country still had 18 MEPs, no change from before the election. Until Bulgaria could hold these elections, the country was represented by MEPs appointed by the National Assembly.
