Ernst-Robert Grawitz
Ernst-Robert Grawitz (8 June 1899 – 24 April 1945) was a German physician and an SS functionary (''Reichsarzt'', "arzt" meaning "physician") during the Nazi era. Biography Grawitz was born in Charlottenburg, in the western part of Berlin, Germany. As ''Reichsarzt SS und Polizei'' (Reich Physician SS and Police), Grawitz was also head of the German Red Cross. Grawitz funded Nazi programs to "eradicate the perverted world of the homosexual" and research into a so-called "cure" for homosexuality. This involved experimentation on inmates in Nazi concentration camps. Paul Grawitz
Paul Albert Grawitz (born 1 October 1850 in Zerrin/ Sierzno, Kreis Bütow (''cf.Bütow/Bytów''), Pommern (now Poland) – 27 June 1932 in Greifswald) was a German pathologist. He was an older brother to hematologist Ernst Grawitz (1860-1911), and father-in-law to pathologist Otto Busse (1867-1922). While he studied medicine at the University of Berlin, he was an assistant to pathologist Rudolf Virchow (1821-1902). After graduation, he continued as an assistant to Virchow until 1886. From 1886 to 1921 he taught as a professor at the University of Greifswald, where he also served as director of the pathological institute. He is known for his pioneer work with tissue cultures, and his experimentation in the field of bacteriology. "Grawitz' tumour", also known as renal cell carcinoma, is named after him. Ernst Grawitz (hematologist)
Ernst Grawitz (18 March 1860, Mittelhagen, Kreis Greifenberg – 11 July 1911) was a German internist remembered for his work in the field of hematology. He was a younger brother of pathologist Paul Grawitz (1850-1932). He studied medicine in Berlin, earning his degree in 1882. Following graduation, he served as a military physician, subsequently working as a prosector at the Augusta Hospital (''Auguste-Viktoria-Klinikum'') in Berlin (1886-1889). Afterwards, he was an assistant at the Berlin-Charité. In 1890 he was habilitated for internal medicine, becoming an associate professor in 1897 as well as chief physician at the city hospital (''Städtischen Krankenhaus'') in Charlottenburg.
