The Cambodia Daily
''The Cambodia Daily'' is an English and Khmer language news site that writes and aggregates news about Cambodia. It was originally an English-language daily newspaper based in Cambodia from 1993 to 2017, and was considered a newspaper of record for Cambodia. According to the owners, the 2017 closure was the result of a dispute with the Cambodian government over a US$6.3 million tax bill, which was disputed by the newspaper's ownership as politically motivated. The newspaper ceased its daily print newspaper, but still maintains a small online presence, and is no longer located in Cambodia. 2022 Cambodian Communal Elections
Communal elections were held in Cambodia on 5 June 2022. It was the fifth quinquennial communal election in Cambodia since 2002. 1,652 communes in all 25 provinces of Cambodia were contested for a total of 11,622 commune council seats. The election precedes the 2023 general election and the 2024 Senate election. 9.2 million of 10.5 million eligible voters were registered to cast their ballots. Voter turnout was 80.3%. The result was a landslide victory for the Cambodian People's Party which won 74% of the popular vote, 1,648 commune chiefs, and more than 9,000 commune councillors. The resurgent Candlelight Party, a faction of the disbanded Cambodia National Rescue Party, won 22% of the popular vote, but only 4 commune chiefs. It also marked the first time ever that no party was led by either Sam Rainsy, Kem Sokha, and Norodom Ranariddh. 2018 Cambodia General Election
General elections were held in Cambodia on Sunday, 29 July 2018 to elect members of the sixth National Assembly. Polling stations opened at 07:00 (ICT) and closed at 15:00. The number of registered voters has decreased for the first time since 1993 and was down 13% from the 2013 general elections. With the absence of a credible opposition, the elections were viewed as a formality to effectively solidify ''de facto'' one-party rule in the country, and were dismissed as sham elections by the international community. They resulted in a widely expected landslide victory for the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), which won all 125 seats in the National Assembly. Cambodia National Rescue Party
The Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP; km, គណបក្សសង្គ្រោះជាតិ ) was a major political party in Cambodia. It was founded in 2012 as a merger between the Sam Rainsy Party and Human Rights Party (Cambodia), Human Rights Party. The party believed in the strengthening of freedom and human rights, institution of free and fair elections, and defending Cambodia's "national integrity". It became the sole challenger to the Cambodian People's Party after the 2013 Cambodian general election, 2013 election. Its official motto was "Rescue, Serve, Protect" ( ) and the logo for the CNRP is the rising sun.
