Grasmere is a suburb of the Macarthur Region of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia in Camden Council. History The area now known as Grasmere was originally home to the Gandangara people of the Southern Highlands although the Muringong, southernmost of the Darug people, were also known to inhabit the area. In 1805, wool pioneer John Macarthur was granted 5,000 acres (20 km2) at Cowpastures (now Camden). Grasmere is still primarily a rural locality. Grasmere, British Columbia, Canada elevation 869m, is a tiny hamlet in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia within the Regional District of East Kootenay, British Columbia. It is located on the east side of Lake Koocanusa, below the mouth of the Elk River, and to the southeast of the city of Cranbrook, and 15 km north of the Canada–United States border and the state of Montana. The city of Fernie is located nearby farther up the Elk River. There are 150 people living in Grasmere, and the most of them work in the adjacent mining, agricultural, or forestry sectors. Grasmere is located within the Galton mountain range of the Canadian Rockies. The area is served by one school, Grasmere Elementary School. Lake of Bays is a township municipality within the District Municipality of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada. The township, situated north of Toronto, is named after the Lake of Bays. During the 2016 census, the township had a population of 3,167 and encompassed of land. Located in the northeast corner of Muskoka, Lake of Bays offers a natural landscape of forests, rocks, lakes and wetlands. Grasmere is a suburb in the New Zealand city of Invercargill. The area is low-lying and at risk from flooding and sea level rise. In 1984, Waihopai River burst its banks, causing flooding in Grasmere and other suburbs. Homes and properties were damaged, and some people became homeless or lost their jobs. Flood banks were installed to prevent further floods. Between 2017 and 2018, Grasmere was the only suburb in Invercargill where the median house price declined. Lake Grassmere / Kapara Te Hau is a New Zealand waituna-type lagoon in the northeastern South Island, close to Cook Strait. The lake is used for the production of salt. Geography Lake Grassmere, south of Blenheim and south of the mouth of the Awatere River, is a shallow lagoon protected from the open sea by a single barrier beach covered by sand dunes. It is on the north-easterly extension of the Ward depression. Covering an area of , it has no natural inflow and is prone to strong warm winds. Close to the sea, it also has very high salinity. Because of these geographical characteristics, it is ideal for natural salt extraction. Grassmere has been divided into solar evaporation ponds. Seawater is pumped in, and moved between ponds over several months, increasing in salinity with each evaporation period. As salinity increases, crystallised salt forms and is extracted. Grasmere is one of the smaller lakes of the English Lake District, in the county of Cumbria. Grasmere Road is a cricket ground located north of Farnborough Airport on Grasmere Road, from which the ground gets its name, in Cove, Hampshire, England. The ground is bordered by housing on its west and north sides, while to the south it is bordered by an open field and on its east side by woodland. The grounds facilities include a pavilion, practice nets and a scoreboard. The ground is owned by Cove Cricket Club, which was founded in 1935. The first recorded match held on the ground came in 1988 when Hampshire Under-16s played Berkshire Under-16s. Grasmere (Rhinebeck, New York)
Grasmere is a national historic district and estate located at Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, New York. It was built by Janet Livingston Montgomery, widow of General Richard Montgomery. History The property that became Grasmere was originally part of a patent granted to Colonel Henry Beekman. Upon the death of Col. Beekman, this portion came to his son, Henry Beekman, whose daughter Margaret married Robert R. Livingston of Clermont. In July 1773, their daughter Janet married retired British officer Richard Montgomery. After their marriage, Janet's maternal grandfather, Henry Beekman, gave them a cottage on the Post Road north of the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck in which to reside. Montgomery bought some surrounding land and set to work fencing, ploughing fields, and laying the foundation for a larger home called "Grasmere". He also built a grist mill on the Landsman Kill.
