Granton F.C.
Granton Football Club was a Scottish football team, based in Pollokshaws, now part of Glasgow (at the time a separate burgh). History The club was founded in 1879, its earliest known match being a win over Kennington Reserves; it turned senior in 1882 by joining the Scottish Football Association, but with 23 members it was the smallest such club in Glasgow; indeed only Southfield of Slamannan was smaller. The move to senior football however attracted more members and by 1883 it was able to field three XIs, the third of which was captained by William Sellar. Granton entered the Scottish Cup from 1882–83 to 1885–86, twice reaching the second round. In 1883–84 the club beat Glencairn 3–1 in the first round but lost 3–2 at Cowlairs in the second. In the 1884–85 Scottish Cup, the club was drawn to play Shawlands, a new club which was also using Norwood Park as its home ground, and won 1–0; however Northern beat Granton 4–0 in the second round. Pollokshaws ( sco, Powkshaws) is an area on the South side of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. It is bordered by the residential neighbourhoods of Auldhouse to the east, Eastwood and Hillpark to the south and Shawlands to the north, with the Glasgow South Western Line railway and the open lands of Pollok Country Park to the west. The White Cart Water flows through the area. The housing stock consists of some sandstone tenement housing, modern brick tenement-style buildings, low-rise social housing and high rise/multi-storey tower blocks. Previously eight tower blocks stood in an area known as the Shawbridge Corridor; the last of these blocks was demolished in March 2016. Partick Thistle Football Club are a professional football club from Glasgow, Scotland. Despite their name, the club are based at Firhill Stadium in the Maryhill area of the city, and have not played in Partick since 1908. The club have been members of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) since its formation in 2013. In the 2020–21 season, Thistle won Scottish League One, the third tier of the SPFL structure, and returned to the Scottish Championship, having been relegated from there in 2019–20. Since 1936, Thistle have played in their distinctive red-and-yellow jerseys of varying designs, with hoops, stripes and predominantly yellow tops with red trims having been used, although in 2009 a centenary kit was launched in the original navy-blue style to commemorate 100 years at Firhill.
