Grant Hodnett
Grant Phillip Hodnett (born 17 August 1982) is a South African-born English cricketer, who holds a British passport from birth and qualified to play for England through residency. Hodnett is a right-handed batsman who bowls leg break. He was born in Johannesburg, Transvaal Province and educated at Northwood High School in Durban. Hodnett appeared for the Gloucestershire Cricket Board in the 2002 MCCA Knockout Trophy, after impressing for Cheltenham Cricket Club, he was signed by Gloucestershire for the 2005 season. He made his debut in a first-class match against Warwickshire in the 2005 County Championship. The following season he made his List A debut against Sussex in the 2006 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy, while the 2007 season saw Hodnett gain an extended run in Jon Lewis' County Championship team, making fifteen appearances in that season, Hodnett scored 886 first-class runs in this season, which came at an average of 36.91, with a high score of 168. Twenty20
Twenty20 (T20) is a shortened game format of cricket. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the county cricket, inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 over (cricket), overs. Together with first-class cricket, first-class and List A cricket, Twenty20 is one of the three current forms of cricket recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as being at the highest international or domestic level. A typical Twenty20 game is completed in about two and a half hours, with each innings lasting around 70 minutes and an official 10-minute break between the innings. 2009 English Cricket Season
The 2009 English cricket season was the 110th in which the County Championship had been an official competition. Four regular tournaments were played: The LV County Championship ( first-class), Friends Provident Trophy ( 50 Over), NatWest Pro40 League ( 40 Over) and the Twenty20 Cup ( T20). All four tournaments featured the eighteen classic county cricket teams, although the Friends Provident Trophy also featured sides from Ireland and Scotland. On the international scene England hosted the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. Australia toured England to compete for the Ashes; it was the 74th test series between the two sides with England winning 2-1. The West Indies also toured losing the Wisden Trophy test series 2-0 to England. 2007 Friends Provident Trophy
The 2007 Friends Provident Trophy was an English county cricket tournament, held between 22 April and 19 August 2007. The tournament was won by Durham. Changes from previous tournament Following the 2006 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy, which had been won by Sussex, various changes were made to the tournament. The first of these to be announced was the inclusion of a semi-final stage in 2007, following complaints of there being "too many meaningless matches". Another change was that of the competition sponsor; Cheltenham & Gloucester, who were reportedly unhappy at the format for 2006, cancelled their future sponsorship before the 2006 season began. Batting Average (cricket)
In cricket, a player's batting average is the total number of runs they have scored divided by the number of times they have been out, usually given to two decimal places. Since the number of runs a player scores and how often they get out are primarily measures of their own playing ability, and largely independent of their teammates, batting average is a good metric for an individual player's skill as a batter (although the practice of drawing comparisons between players on this basis is not without criticism). The number is also simple to interpret intuitively. If all the batter's innings were completed (i.e. they were out every innings), this is the average number of runs they score per innings. Jon Lewis (cricketer, Born 1975)
Jonathan Lewis (born 26 August 1975) is a former England cricketer and current Head Coach of England Women's Cricket. He was brought up in Swindon where he was educated at Churchfields School and Swindon College. He played for Swindon CC and, in Minor Counties cricket, for Wiltshire County Cricket Club in 1993. He joined Northamptonshire in 1994 and played for its Second XI but returned to Wiltshire in 1995. In the same year, he joined Gloucestershire and made his first-class debut. He has played for the English cricket team in Twenty20, One Day International and Test matches. He was appointed Gloucestershire captain in 2006. In 2005, Lewis was included in the England squad for the two Tests against Bangladesh, but did not play in either match. 2007 English Cricket Season
The 2007 English cricket season was the 108th in which the County Championship had been an official competition. It began on Saturday 14 April 2007 with the match between MCC and the 2006 county champions Sussex at Lord's. Sussex went on to win the County Championship.
