Grant Avenue Studio
Grant Avenue Studio is a music recording studio named after its location at 38 Grant Avenue in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1976 by Canadian record producers and artists Bob Doidge, Daniel Lanois and Bob Lanois. The studio is known for its traditional look and intimate feel, which attracted artists such as Gordon Lightfoot, U2 and Johnny Cash. History 1970s In the early 1970s, music producers and brothers Bob and Daniel Lanois ran a makeshift music studio out of their mother's basement, located in Ancaster, Ontario. They purchased a building from the early 1900s in downtown Hamilton, Ontario and spent a year converting it into a proper studio opening for business in 1976. Daniel Lanois
Daniel Roland Lanois ( , ; born September 19, 1951) is a Canadian record producer and musician. He has produced albums by artists including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel, Robbie Robertson, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, and Harold Budd. He collaborated with Brian Eno to create the ambient genre and produce several albums for U2, including ''The Joshua Tree'' (1987) and ''Achtung Baby'' (1991). Three albums produced or co-produced by Lanois have won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year (Grammy), Album of the Year. Four other albums received Grammy nominations. Lanois has released several solo albums. He wrote and performed the music for the 1996 film ''Sling Blade,'' and provided several vocal tracks for ''Red Dead Redemption 2''. Bob Lanois
Robert Jacques Lanois (April 4, 1948 – April 19, 2021) was a Canadian sound engineer, record producer, and harmonica player. He released his first album, ''Snake Road'', in 2006, in collaboration with his brother Daniel Lanois. He also recorded an album with guitarist Tom Wilson, entitled ''The Shack Recordings Volume One''. In 1976, he and Daniel opened Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Among other credits, he co-produced Simply Saucer's demo tape with Daniel. He was also given a credit in the "Thanks to" section of U2's ''The Joshua Tree'' album credits. Bob Lanois travelled to Sweden in 2007, performing shows together with eclectic Swedish band Big Is Less after having met the band's guitarist Tommy Sahlin via MySpace. Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. (November 17, 1938 – May 1, 2023) was a Canadian singer-songwriter who achieved worldwide success and helped define the singer-songwriter era of the 1970s. Bruce Douglas Cockburn ( ; born May 27, 1945) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist. His song styles range from folk to folk- and jazz-influenced rock to soundscapes accompanying spoken stories.
