Aglianico ( , ) is a black grape grown in the southern regions of Italy, mostly Basilicata and Campania. It is considered with Sangiovese and Nebbiolo to be one of the three greatest Italian varieties. Aglianico is sometimes called "The Barolo of the South" () due to its ability to produce highly refined, complex fine wines like the famous wine from Piedmont, Barolo. History The origins of both the vine itself and its name are unclear. Traditionally, the vine is thought to have originated in Greece, first cultivated by Phocians from an unidentified ancestral vine; it was then brought to Cumae, near modern-day Pozzuoli, by Greek settlers in the 8th century BC, and from there it spread into southern Italy. However, modern DNA analysis of Aglianico does not support this view, revealing little relation to other Greek grape varieties. ''The Frontier'' (Polish: ''Granica'') is a novel written by Zofia Nałkowska, a renowned Polish prose writer, dramatist, and prolific essayist. It tells the story of the life of Zenon Ziembiewicz, his way to the top and success, as well as love affairs and problems. The novel itself combines features of many different genres: psychological novel, sensation novel, realistic prose and detective novel. Originally, the author wanted to title her book “Patterns”, however, she changed her mind and decided on “The Frontier”. The novel has been made into a film twice: in 1938 and 1977. Story is written by means of analepsis and the plot often is interjected with scenes that take the narrative back in time from the current point. Written during the interwar period, the novel describes such controversial topics as abortion, and the economic and social problems of that time. Zofia Nałkowska
Zofia Nałkowska (, 10 November 1884 – 17 December 1954) was a Polish prose writer, dramatist, and prolific essayist. She served as the executive member of the prestigious Polish Academy of Literature (1933–1939) during the interwar period. Biography Nałkowska was born into a family of intellectuals dedicated to issues of social justice, and studied at the clandestine Flying University under the Russian partition. Upon Poland's return to independence and the establishment of the Second Polish Republic she became one of the country's most distinguished feminist writers of novels, novellas and stage-plays characterized by socio-realism and psychological depth. From 1928, she was vice-president of the Polish PEN Club. In the 1930s, she took an active part in speeches against the Sanation regime.
