Grande-Vallée
Grande-Vallée () is a municipality (Quebec), municipality in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine Quebec region, region of the Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Quebec in Canada. Its name (French for "Great Valley") describes its location in a large fertile valley through which the Grand Vallée River flows. History In 1691, Louis de Buade de Frontenac, Governor General Frontenac granted the area to François Hazeur, a prosperous merchant from Quebec City. The seignory, called La Grande-Vallée-des-Monts, stretched from Rivière-Magdeleine Seignory in the west to the Saint-Hélier portage in the east. It was inherited by Hazeur's son-in-law, Michel Sarrazin, a surgeon, biologist, and doctor of the King. No colonization took place until the 1830s, when fishermen of Montmagny, Quebec, Saint-Thomas-de-Montmagny occupied the place during the summer. Gaspé (provincial Electoral District)
Gaspé () is a provincial electoral district in the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is located on the eastern edge of the Gaspé Peninsula. It notably includes the municipalities of Gaspé, Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Grande-Rivière and Percé. It was originally created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Its final election was in 1927. It disappeared in the 1931 election and its successor electoral districts were Gaspé-Nord and Gaspé-Sud. Route 132 is the longest highway in Quebec. It follows the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River from the border with the state of New York (state), New York in the hamlet of Dundee, Quebec, Dundee (connecting with New York State Route 37 (NY 37) via NY 970T, an unsigned reference route (New York), reference route, north of Massena, New York, Massena), west of Montreal to the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and circles the Gaspé Peninsula. Michel Sarrazin
Michel Sarrazin (5 September 1659 – 8 September 1734), was an early Canadian surgeon, physician, scientist and naturalist. Born in Nuits-sous-Beaune in the province of Burgundy, he immigrated at age 25 to the colony of New France as a surgeon. He remained in the colony for the rest of his life, returning to France only during two brief periods. While in New France, his medical skills were constantly in demand, and he quickly rose in the ranks, becoming one of the colonial elite. He was both a seigneur and a member of the Conseil Superieur, and held considerable influence in the colony. He had a great interest in botany, and kept up a frequent correspondence with the Académie Royale des Sciences in France, sending fellow scientists numerous specimens of North American plants, as well as detailed descriptions of dissections of animals. Montmagny () is a city in the Montmagny Regional County Municipality within the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada. It is the county seat and had a population, as of the 2021 Canadian census, of 10,999.
