The district historically known as Hidden Vale (or Hiddenvale) is within the locality, approx south of the town of Grandchester where Hiddenvale Road has its junction with the Grandchester Mount Mort Road (). Although unofficial, the name persists in the road name, St Anne's Hidden Vale (Anglican church), Spicers Hidden Vale (a rural resort), and the Hidden Vale Wildlife Centre (jointly operated by the resort and the University of Queensland). Grandchester Railway Station
Grandchester railway station is a heritage-listed former railway station at Ipswich Road, Grandchester, City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1875 to 1876. It is also known as Bigge's Camp. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Grandchester, originally known as Bigge's Camp, is the western terminus for the first railway in Queensland and the first section of the Main Line to Toowoomba, opened from Ipswich on 31 July 1865. Works were carried out to the station building in 1875 and 1876. The goods shed was also built in that year. T. Neville signed a contract to undertake work on the station buildings on 19 December 1878. The tank was relocated from Laidley in 1876 and a locomotive stationed here from 1885 to assist trains over the Little Liverpool Range. Grandchester Sawmills is a heritage-listed sawmill business at Symes Street, Grandchester, City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1941. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History The Gillam brothers started the Grandchester Sawmills in 1941. While at this time World War II brought a severe reduction in housing activity, after a short resurgence when the depression lifted, the declaration of war with Japan at the end of 1941 was followed by a huge upsurge of construction for military purposes. As structures were needed quickly and were expected to be temporary, the demand for milled timber grew rapidly. One of Queensland's earliest major industrial enterprises was William Pettigrew's sawmill in Brisbane. Opening in 1853, the sawmill predated the separation of Queensland as a colony by six years. Calvert is a rural town and locality in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Calvert had a population of 313 people. Geography The Main Line railway passes through Calvert as does Western Creek, a tributary of the Bremer River. The Victoria Tunnel is a railway tunnel located in Queensland, Australia. At , the tunnel is the longer of the two oldest railway tunnels in Queensland, the other being known as the 'Six Chain', either because it is long, or is situated entirely on a radius curve, or both.
