Grand Rapids Subdivision
The Grand Rapids Subdivision is a railroad line in Western Michigan and Northern Indiana. It runs from Porter, Indiana to Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was built between 1870–1903 by the Chicago and Michigan Lake Shore Railroad and its successor the Pere Marquette Railroad. CSX Transportation owns the line today. In addition to freight traffic, the line hosts Amtrak's daily . Route The northern end of the line is in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where it meets the Grand Rapids Terminal Subdivision at Wyoming Yard. From there, the line runs west-southwest toward Indiana, roughly following the Lake Michigan coastline but staying inland until Benton Harbor, Michigan. Benton Harbor is a city in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is 46 miles southwest of Kalamazoo and 71 miles southwest of Grand Rapids. The Pere Marquette Railway operated in the Great Lakes region of the United States and southern parts of Ontario in Canada. Union Pier is an unincorporated community in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is situated between the Lake Michigan shore and the Galien River about five miles north of the Indiana state border. The ZIP code is 49129 and the FIPS place code is 81400. The Michigan Line, sometimes known as the Chicago–Detroit Line, is a higher-speed rail corridor that runs between Porter, Indiana and Dearborn, Michigan. It carries Amtrak's '' Blue Water'' and ''Wolverine'' services, as well as the occasional freight train operated by Norfolk Southern.
