Grand Rapids SC is an American soccer club based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, established in 2024. The club participates in the Midwest Premier League. History Grand Rapids Soccer Club (GRSC) was established in 2024 by leaders of various local youth clubs aiming to sustainably develop professional soccer in the Grand Rapids area. An initial fundraising event was held on January 17, 2024 in Grand Rapids, MI. In July 2024, the club acquired coaches and players from existing competitive local soccer teams, and was accepted into the United Premier Soccer League for the Fall 2024 season. Following the Fall 2024 season where GRSC secured third place, the club declared on December 17, 2024, their intention to join the Midwest Premier League, aligning with a robust group of Michigan teams. Crest and colors On July 29, 2024, GRSC representatives launched a contest for designing the club's crest, allowing community members to contribute designs and vote on the final badge. The chosen ...

Midwest Premier League
The Midwest Premier League (MWPL) is an American amateur and semi-professional soccer league. The league spans primarily the eastern and central portions of the Midwestern United States. History The league was founded by four clubs which were all previously members of the United Premier Soccer League Midwest Conference. Following the 2019 UPSL season, the clubs decided that they could create a stable league that would focus on sustainability of the member clubs by sharing ideas, keeping league costs to a minimum, and maximizing the opportunities for all clubs to compete by limiting end-of-season playoffs that often shorten the season for many teams. United Premier Soccer League
The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is an American for-profit soccer league that was founded in Santa Ana in Southern California, with teams in regionalized conferences throughout the United States, and recently Canada and Mexico. The league was founded in 2011 by Santa Ana Winds President Leonel López as a regional league for teams in Greater Los Angeles, but expanded to include 400 teams from 41 states as of the 2022 season. Two seasons are played each year, with regional play culminating in a playoff system that crowns a single national champion each season. The league features internal promotion and relegation with up to three levels in some regions; only clubs in the top tier Premier Division are eligible to compete for the national championship. ''La Grande Vitesse'', a public art, public sculpture by United States, American artist Alexander Calder, is located on the large concrete plaza surrounding City Hall and the Kent County Building in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States. Popularly referred to as simply "the Calder", since its installation in 1969 it has come to be a symbol of Grand Rapids, and an abstraction of it is included in the city's official logo. History The sculpture was the first public art work funded by the Art in Public Places program of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Fabricated in Tours, France and assembled on the plaza, the steel sculpture is 43 feet tall, 54 feet long, and 30 feet wide, and weighs 42 tons. It is painted in Calder's signature bright red.
