Giant Radio Array For Neutrino Detection
The Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND) is a proposed large-scale detector designed to collect ultra-high energy cosmic particles as cosmic rays, neutrinos and photons with energies exceeding 1017 eV. This project aims at solving the mystery of their origin and the early stages of the universe itself. The proposal, formulated by an international group of researchers, calls for an array of 200,000 receivers to be placed on mountain ranges around the world. Overview The GRAND detector would search for neutrinos, exotic particles emitted by some and the black holes in the center of galaxies. These neutrinos could help astronomers find the source of other energetic particles called ultra-high-energy cosmic rays. When neutrinos reach Earth, they often collide with particles either in the air or on the ground, creating showers of secondary particles. These secondary particles can be picked up by the radio antennas, which lets researchers calculate the trajectory of ...

Grand (slang)
Slang terms for money often derive from the appearance and features of banknotes or coins, their values, historical associations or the units of currency concerned. Within a language community, some of the slang terms vary in social, ethnic, economic, and geographic strata but others have become the dominant way of referring to the currency and are regarded as mainstream, acceptable language (for example, "buck" for a dollar or similar currency in various nations including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Nigeria and the United States). Argentina In Argentina, over the years and throughout many economic crises, several slang terms for money have emerged. Seniors above 65 typically used "guita" to describe coins of a low denomination of cents ('centavos'), such as 2, 5 or 10 cent coins. "10 guita" is 10 centavos. The word "guita" in Lunfardo (Buenos Aires slang) is nowadays synonymous with "money". During the short period of the Argentine austral, Austral, which ...

Great Recycling And Northern Development Canal
The Great Recycling and Northern Development Canal or GRAND Canal is a water management proposal designed by Newfoundland and Labrador, Newfoundland engineer Thomas Kierans to alleviate North American freshwater Water politics, shortage problems. It proposed damming James Bay, using the techniques of the Zuiderzee/IJsselmeer, to prevent its waters mixing with the salt water of Hudson Bay to the north. This would produce an enormous freshwater lake, some of which would be pumped south into Georgian Bay where it would increase the freshwater levels of the lower Great Lakes. The flow would be roughly equivalent to "2.5 Niagara Falls". The plan was promoted by Kierans from 1959 until his death in 2013 and since by his son, Michael Kierans. This plan arose as Great Lakes Areas of Concern, water quality issues threatened the Great Lakes and other vital areas in Canada and the United States. Kierans proposed that to avoid a Water scarcity, water crisis from future droughts in Canada an ...
