Grand Arts
Grand Arts was a nonprofit contemporary art space in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, whose mission was to help national and international artists realize projects considered too risky, provocative or complex to otherwise attract support. It was co-founded by Margaret Silva and Sean Kelley in 1995 and operated until 2015 with sole funding from the Margaret Hall Silva Foundation. Facilities included a 4,000-square-foot fabrication studio, exhibition spaces, offices, and an on-site apartment available for visiting artists. History Margaret Silva and Sean Kelley co-founded Grand Arts in 1995 to give artists "a place for radical experimentation, without the constraints of too little time and even less money". Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (born June 17, 1987) is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. Nick Cave (born February 4, 1959) is an American sculptor, dancer, performance artist, and professor. He is best known for his ''Soundsuit'' series: wearable assemblage fabric sculptures that are bright, whimsical, and other-worldly, often made with found objects. He also trained as a dancer with Alvin Ailey and often incorporates dance and performance into his works. His later sculptures have focused on color theory and included mixed media and large-scale installations. China Marks (born 1942, Kansas City, Missouri) is an American artist creating process-directed sewn drawings and books. Bykert Gallery was a contemporary art gallery in New York City between 1966 and 1975, run by Klaus Kertess (curator and gallerist), Klaus Kertess (1940 - 2016) and Jeff Byers who had been classmates at Yale College, class of 1958. Mel Kendrick (born July 28, 1949) is an American visual artist and sculptor known primarily for his abstract, three-dimensional forms derived from sliced and reconstituted wooden blocks. Kendrick's work is understood to reflect a deep fascination with process, space, geometry, and natural forms and materials. Alice Aycock
Alice Aycock (born November 20, 1946) is an American sculptor and installation artist. She was an early artist in the land art movement in the 1970s, and has created many large-scale metal sculptures around the world. Aycock's drawings and sculptures of architectural and mechanical fantasies combine logic, imagination, magical thinking and science. Biography Aycock was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on November 20, 1946. The Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) is a private art school in Kansas City, Missouri. The college was founded in 1885 and is an accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and Higher Learning Commission.
