(''GT'') is a series of sim racing video games developed by Polyphony Digital. Released for PlayStation systems, ''Gran Turismo'' games are intended to emulate the appearance and performance of a large selection of vehicles, most of which are licensed reproductions of real-world automobiles. Since the franchise's debut in 1997, over 90 million units have been sold worldwide, making it the highest selling video game franchise under the PlayStation brand. Handling of the vehicles in ''Gran Turismo'' games is based on the principles of real-world physics, requiring the player to understand real race driving techniques to be competitive, although various assists are available for less experienced drivers. Kazunori Yamauchi
, nicknamed "Kaz", is a Japanese game designer and racing driver. He is the CEO of Polyphony Digital and producer of the ''Gran Turismo (series), Gran Turismo'' video game series. Polyphony Digital He became the president of Polyphony Digital after designing his first game ''Motor Toon Grand Prix'', a cartoon-inspired racing title similar to ''Mario Kart''. ''Motor Toon Grand Prix'' later spawned a sequel, ''Motor Toon Grand Prix 2'', which was the only game in the franchise released outside Japan. Olympic Esports Series
The Olympic Esports Series was an Olympic Games-style esports event featuring multiple different virtual sports and video games coming together in a single location similar to a multi-sport event, run by the International Olympic Committee. While esports and competitive video gaming have traditionally not been considered a sport, the Olympic Movement began taking an interest as early as 2007, when esports was included at the 2007 Asian Indoor Games. In 2017, an Olympic Summit was held focused on the International Olympic Committee and esports. After an online-only Olympic Virtual Series was held during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the IOC eventually announced the creation of the Olympic Esports Series, as part of the Olympic Esports Week in November 2022. ''Gran Turismo'' is a 2023 American biographical sports drama film directed by Neill Blomkamp from a screenplay by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. Produced by Columbia Pictures, PlayStation Productions, and 2.0 Entertainment, it is based on the sim racing video game series developed by Polyphony Digital. It depicts a sensationalized account of real life British teenager Jann Mardenborough, a teenage ''Gran Turismo'' player who became a professional racing car driver. GT Academy
GT Academy (also known as Nissan PlayStation GT Academy and NISMO PlayStation GT Academy as part of the Nissan partnership) is a television programme that was produced by Grand Central Entertainment and funded by Nissan and Sony Interactive Entertainment from 2008 to 2016. GT Academy provided skilled '' Gran Turismo'' players an opportunity to earn a real-life professional racing career with Nissan. History GT Academy was conceived by Darren Cox, former Nissan Europe executive, in 2006 to help Sony PlayStation racing gamers become professional racing drivers. Gran Turismo World Series
The Gran Turismo World Series (also referred to as the GTWS) are a series of virtual Motorsports tournaments managed directly by Polyphony Digital. The championship contains two series that are held concurrently throughout the year: the Nations Cup (entrants from their respective countries will represent them) and the Manufacturers Cup (entrants will race for and represent their chosen manufacturer). The series uses Polyphony Digital's latest sim ''Gran Turismo 7''. Through 2018 to 2021, the Gran Turismo World Series was previously sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. The Nürburgring 24 Hours is a 24-hour annual touring car racing, touring car and Grand tourer, GT Endurance racing (motorsport), endurance racing event that takes place on a combination of the Nordschleife ("North Loop") and the GP-Strecke ("Grand Prix track") circuits of the Nürburgring in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
