Grahame Smith
Grahame Thomas Smith (born 8 January 1959) is a Scottish people, Scottish former trade unionist, who served as General Secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC). Education Smith attended Bishopbriggs High School, which merged into Bishopbriggs Academy, between 1971 and 1977. He is a graduate of Strathclyde University, where he obtained an Honours Degree in Economics and Industrial Relations. The Scots ( sco, Scots Fowk; gd, Albannaich) are an ethnic group and nation native to Scotland. Historically, they emerged in the early Middle Ages from an amalgamation of two Celtic-speaking peoples, the Picts and Gaels, who founded the Kingdom of Scotland (or '' Alba'') in the 9th century. In the following two centuries, the Celtic-speaking Cumbrians of Strathclyde and the Germanic-speaking Angles of north Northumbria became part of Scotland. The General Secretary of the STUC is the chief permanent officer of the Scottish Trades Union Congress, and a major figure in the trade union movement in the United Kingdom. The Secretary is responsible for the effective operation of the STUC and for leading implementation of policies set by the annual Congress and the organisation's General Council. They also serve as the STUC's chief representative, both with the public and with other organisations. The position was formed in 1922, when the Parliamentary Committee of the STUC became the General Council. Bishopbriggs Academy
Bishopbriggs Academy is a secondary school in the town of Bishopbriggs, Scotland, in the district of East Dunbartonshire. Bishopbriggs Academy is a non-denominational, co-educational, comprehensive school taking pupils from S1 to S6. It is currently one of two secondary schools in Bishopbriggs, along with Turnbull High School at Brackenbrae. The school was established in August 2006 as a result of the amalgamation of Bishopbriggs High School and Thomas Muir High School. The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) is the national trade union centre in Scotland. With 40 affiliated unions as of 2020, the STUC represents over 540,000 trade unionists. The STUC is a separate organisation from the English and Welsh Trades Union Congress (TUC), having been established in 1897 as a result of a political dispute with the TUC regarding political representation for the Labour movement. Bill Speirs
William MacLeod Speirs (8 March 1952 – 23 September 2009) was a Scottish trade union leader, a socialist and internationalist. He was General Secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress. Speirs was a key figure in left-wing Scottish politics, chairing the Scottish council of the Labour party at the 1987 general election, and being a prominent member of various groups of the Bennite left, e.g. the Labour Co-ordinating Committee and Scottish Labour Action. Rozanne Foyer
Rozanne Foyer (born November 1972) is a Scottish trade union leader. Foyer grew up in Glasgow, where she helped out on her parents' market stall in the Barras. She left school after her Highers, and worked in the VAT office, but left after being sexually harassed and unsure of her rights, an experience which inspired her to join a union. Foyer worked for the Benefits Agency, where she led a successful campaign against privatisation. This led the Graphical, Paper and Media Union to take her on full-time as a trainee organiser, following which she became an assistant secretary at the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC). Her next appointment was as a national officer for the Transport and General Workers' Union, and after it became part of Unite, she worked in its national organising department.
