Graham Edwards (politician)
Graham John Edwards AM (born 18 July 1946) is an Australian soldier, veterans' advocate and Labor Party member who represented the electorate of Cowan in the Australian House of Representatives from 1998 to 2007. He was born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, and voluntarily joined the Australian Army for service in the Vietnam War in 1968. On 12 May 1970, he was severely injured, losing both legs. After leaving the Army he joined the Department of Defence as an officer with the Vietnam Veterans' Counselling Service. He was elected to the Council of the City of Stirling in 1981. Edwards was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Council in 1983. The Australian Sports Medal is an award given to recognise achievements in Australian sport to commemorate Australian participation in major sporting events. Original recipients of the award included competitors, coaches, sports scientists, office holders, and people who maintained sporting facilities and services.
