Gracie Barra Combat Team
Gracie Barra (GB) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy and team co-funded in 1986 by Carlos Gracie Jr., a son of Carlos Gracie, one of the founders of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. History The Gracie Barra academy was established in 1986 by Carlos Gracie Jr. (known as Carlinhos) at the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. Gracie, a son of Carlos Gracie Sr. one of the founders of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, had been head coach at the main Gracie academy in Rio de Janeiro's downtown, before leading his brother Rolls Gracie's school in Copacabana, following his tragic death in a hang-gliding accident. The academy became known as Gracie Barra in reference to the neighborhood. In a year the academy went from 20 to 200 members including some of the students Gracie had coached at his brother's academy, such as Jean Jacques Machado and Renzo Gracie. Copacabana ( , , ) is a Brazilian (neighbourhood) located in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Orlando Sanchez (fighter)
Orlando Sanchez (February 5, 1982 – December 15, 2022) was an American submission grappler and mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He was known as the "Cuban Tree Stump" and "the Big O". Competition career Sanchez earned his black belt in BJJ in four years. He won the ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship in 2015. He was undefeated in MMA. He is best known for competing at ADCC, where he earned a gold medal in 2015 and a silver medal in 2017. His final appearance was at the 2022 ADCC World Championship and he was inducted into the ADCC Hall of Fame in 2024. Death Sanchez died in December 2022 from a fentanyl and methamphetamine overdose. Northridge, California
Northridge is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of the Los Angeles, City of Los Angeles. The community is home to California State University, Northridge, and the Northridge Fashion Center. ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship
The ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship is an international submission wrestling, submission grappling competition, organised by the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC). ADCC is considered one of the most prestigious No-Gi submission grappling tournaments in the world, and is commonly referred to as ''The Olympics of Grappling''. The inaugural tournament was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE in 1998 and is held every two years. Host countries have included Brazil, China, Finland, Spain, the UK, and the US. Vinicius Magalhães (Draculino)
Vinicius Bittencourt Almeida Magalhães (born July 30, 1971) is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sixth degree black belt under Carlos Gracie, Jr. and also at the same time a brown belt in Judo, and a Muay Thai expert. He has been teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 18 years. He has instructed mixed martial arts and grappling champions. Draculino has produced such talent as Joaquim Ferreira, Romulo Barral, Alberto Crane, Marcelo Azevedo, Cristiano Titi, and Samuel Braga. Draculino grew up with Ryan Gracie, Ralph Gracie, and Renzo Gracie, taking classes under both Jean Jacques Machado and Carlos Gracie, Jr. at the original Gracie Barra Academy. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu ranking system signifies a practitioner's increasing level of technical knowledge and practical skill within the art. Colored belts worn as part of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu gi, uniform are awarded to the practitioner. The World IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament held annually by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
