Graah Mountains
The Graah Mountains ( or ''Graah Bjerge'')Spencer Apollonio, ''Lands That Hold One Spellbound: A Story of East Greenland'', 2008 p. 33 are a mountain range in southeastern Greenland. Administratively this range is part of the Kujalleq municipality. This mountain group was named after Wilhelm August Graah, who described them for the first time during his 1829 expedition to the little known eastern coast of Greenland in search of the lost Eastern Norse Settlement.W.A. Kangerluk Fjord
Kangerluk, also known as ''Kangerluluarak'', is a fjord in the King Frederick VI Coast, Kujalleq municipality, southern Greenland. History In Kangerluk there is a small cove at a place named Saqqap Nuua (Serkertnua) where Lieutenant Wilhelm August Graah was detained seventeen days in 1829 during his East Coast expedition owing to the difficult ice and weather conditions to the north. Amphibolite
Amphibolite () is a metamorphic rock that contains amphibole, especially hornblende and actinolite, as well as plagioclase feldspar, but with little or no quartz. It is typically dark-colored and dense, with a weakly foliated or schistose (flaky) structure. The small flakes of black and white in the rock often give it a salt-and-pepper appearance. Amphibolite frequently forms by metamorphism of mafic igneous rocks, such as basalt. However, because metamorphism creates minerals entirely based upon the chemistry of the protolith, certain 'dirty marls' and volcanic sediments may also metamorphose to an amphibolite assemblage. Google Earth is a web mapping, web and computer program created by Google that renders a 3D computer graphics, 3D representation of Earth based primarily on satellite imagery. Iluileq Fjord
Iluileq () is a fjord in the King Frederick VI Coast, Kujalleq municipality, southern Greenland.''Prostar Sailing Directions 2005 Greenland and Iceland Enroute'', p. 100 This fjord was named by Wilhelm August Graah after David Danell, a Dutchman who made three expeditions to Greenland in 1652-54 sent by King Frederick III of Denmark. Kangerluluk Fjord
Kangerluluk, meaning 'the awful fjord', is a fjord in the King Frederick VI Coast, Kujalleq municipality, southern Greenland. Deposits of rare minerals have been found in this fjord, as well as in neighbouring Igutsaat Fjord. Geography Kangerluluk extends in a roughly east–west direction for about 65 km between Igutsaat Fjord to the north and Iluileq Fjord (Danell Fjord) to the south. To the east the fjord opens into the North Atlantic Ocean between Cape Olfert Fischer and the headland of Qajartalik, just north of Qeqertatsiaq Island. The fjord has a large active glacier at its head and is frequently blocked by ice. Kangerluluk has four short branches on its southern coast. Greenland Ice Sheet
The Greenland ice sheet is an ice sheet which forms the second largest body of ice in the world. It is an average of thick and over thick at its maximum. It is almost long in a north–south direction, with a maximum width of at a latitude of 77th parallel north, 77°N, near its northern edge. The ice sheet covers , around 80% of the surface of Greenland, or about 12% of the area of the Antarctic ice sheet. The term 'Greenland ice sheet' is often shortened to GIS or GrIS in scientific literature. Irminger Sea
The Irminger Sea is a marginal sea of the North Atlantic Ocean.
