Government Arts College is an arts and science college located in Ooty in the Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu, India. The college is located in a locale called ''Stone house hill'' named after the landmark building Stone House. History Government Arts College, Ooty was established in 1955 under the University of Madras. The present building of the college was the summer secretariat of the British Madras Presidency. Bharathiar University is a public state university in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Named after Tamil poet Subramania Bharati, the university was established in February 1982 under the provision of Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982) and was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1985. Ooty (), officially known as Udhagamandalam (also known as Ootacamund (); abbreviated as Udhagai), is a city and a municipality in the Nilgiris district of the South Indian States and territories of India, state of Tamil Nadu. Stone House, Ooty
Stone House was the first bungalow constructed in Ooty (India). It was built by John Sullivan and was called ''Kal Bangala'' by the tribals (Kal means stone in Tamil). Today, it is the official residence of the Principal of the Government Arts College, Ooty. The tree in front of the bungalow is known as the Sullivan's oak.
