Govanhill F.C.
Govanhill Football Club was an association football club from Govanhill, in Renfrewshire, which at the time was a separate burgh to Glasgow. History The club was founded out of a lacrosse club and was originally called Govanhill Lacrosse. Being an offshoot of an existing club meant that it had a large stock of members from which to choose a footballing XI, and in 1878, its 60 members made it one of the larger sides in the Glasgow area. Indeed, the earliest recorded fixture for the club was between its first two XIs at the start of 1878. In April 1878, the club played in the second-ever football match in Falkirk, beating Falkirk F.C. 1–0 at Randyford (the ground of the East Stirlingshire cricket club). Queen's Park, Glasgow
Queen's Park (, ) is a park situated on the south side of the city of Glasgow, Scotland, between Strathbungo, Shawlands, Battlefield, Mount Florida, and Crosshill. The park lies about south of the city centre, and gives its name to a nearby railway station and several other local businesses and institutions, including the football team Queen's Park FC. History The lands of the park were part of the lands of Langside, belonging to the Maxwells of Pollok. During the 17th Century, the western part was sold to form Camphill Farm. This was sold again in 1799 to Glasgow manufacturer Robert Thomson who built , which still stands at the edge of the park grounds. His son purchased the adjacent Pathhead Farm in 1834, and the merged land was sold by grandson Neale Thomson to Glasgow Corporation in 1857 for the purpose of developing Glasgow's third park. St Enoch station was a mainline railway station in the city of Glasgow, Scotland between 1876 and 1966. The hotel was the first building in Glasgow to be fitted out with electric lighting. The station was demolished in 1977. The Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) is an affiliated national association of the Scottish Football Association and is the governing body for the junior grade of football (soccer), football in Scotland. The term "junior" refers to the level of football played, not the age of the players. 1879–80 Scottish Cup
The 1879–80 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the seventh season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. With 142 entrants, this season saw the largest number of teams to compete for the trophy since its inception. Three-time defending champions Vale of Leven lost their first match in the competition for four seasons when they were knocked out in the first round, losing 4–3 to rivals Dumbarton. Queen's Park regained the trophy as they won the competition for the fourth time after beating Thornliebank 3–0 in the final on 21 February 1880. Format As with the previous competitions, the seventh edition of the Scottish Cup took on the format of a traditional knockout tournament.
