Gothenburg Coastal Artillery Defence
Gothenburg Coastal Artillery Defence (, GbK) was a unit of the Swedish Coastal Artillery which operated from 1942 to 1980. The staff was located in the Gothenburg Garrison in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Gothenburg Coastal Artillery Defence was a naval authority responsible for mobilizing and commanding coastal artillery units in the Gothenburg archipelago. Gothenburg Coastal Artillery Defence was commanded by a Coastal Artillery Defence Commander, who also served as Defence District Commander, who in this capacity was the territorial commander. As Defence District Commander, the Coastal Artillery Defence Commander had the same responsibilities and obedience conditions as Defence District Commanders of the Swedish Army. Senior Colonel Per Hjalmar Ludvig Carleson (11 July 1917 – 8 June 2004) was a Swedish officer and épée fencer. Carleson was one of the founders of the Swedish Coastal Rangers. Early life Carleson was born on 11 July 1917 in Stockholm, Sweden, the son of captain Waldemar Carleson and his wife Gunnila (née Unge). He grew up in Stockholm with four brothers. Early attention was paid to his great interest and aptitude for swimming. Henrik Lange
Lieutenant General Henrik Lange (27 May 1908 – 5 November 2000) was a Swedish Coastal Artillery officer. Lange had a distinguished military career in the Swedish Coastal Artillery, beginning in 1930 as a commissioned officer. He quickly advanced through the ranks, becoming a lieutenant in 1933 and a captain by 1939. Lange held various key positions, including teacher at the Royal Swedish Naval Academy, adjutant to the Chief of the Swedish Coastal Artillery, and head of a 15 cm artillery battery during World War II. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1950 and colonel in 1954, eventually becoming the Inspector of the Swedish Coastal Artillery in 1961. Lieutenant General Karl Rudolf Kolmodin (17 January 1896 – 29 August 1978) was a Swedish Coastal Artillery officer. Kolmodin's senior commands include postings as commanding officer of the Gothenburg Coastal Artillery Defence and Stockholm Coastal Artillery Defence and as Inspector of the Swedish Coastal Artillery. Early life Kolmodin was born on 17 January 1896 in Bromma Parish, Stockholm, Sweden, the son of Professor Adolf Kolmodin (1855–1928) and his wife Nelly (née von Post) (1858–1944). He was the brother of Colonel Gustaf Kolmodin (1893–1975) and Diplomat Johannes Kolmodin (1884–1933). Kolmodin passed ''studentexamen'' in Uppsala in 1914. Älvsborg Coastal Artillery Regiment
The Älvsborg Coastal Artillery Regiment (), designation KA 4, was a Swedish Navy coastal artillery regiment of the Swedish Armed Forces which operated between 1942 and 2000. The unit was based in Gothenburg. History After the Swedish Coastal Artillery was established in 1902, intended for manning the Sweden's coastal fortifications, it was decided that a detachment from the Karlskrona Coastal Artillery Regiment (KA 2) called Älvsborg Coastal Artillery Detachment, would be located in Gothenburg. The existing facilities at Nya Varvet were placed at the disposal of the coastal artillery. Thus, Gothenburg's coastal artillery had begun its existence.
