Gorge FC is an amateur soccer team based out of Hood River, Oregon. They started playing in the National Premier Soccer League in 2014. They will play in the Golden Gate Division of the West Region. The Gorge FC's team owner is Roger Sherrell. History The team was founded in 2013 and known as SO Samba FC. They began to play at Columbia Gorge Community College in Hood River. The city of Hood River is the seat of Hood River County, Oregon, United States. It is a port on the Columbia River, and is named for the nearby Hood River. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 8,313. It is the only city in Oregon where public consumption of alcohol on sidewalks or parks is totally unrestricted. History Hood River (originally called Dog River) post office was established (named by Mary Coe) at the site of the present city on September 30, 1868, and the city itself was incorporated in 1895. The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is an American men's soccer league. The NPSL is a semi-professional league, comprising some teams that have paid players and some that are entirely amateur. The league is officially affiliated to the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) and has automatic qualification for the U.S. Open Cup. It is the successor of the Men's Premier Soccer League, a regional league originally based in the Western United States, which has now expanded nationwide to encompass teams from 29 states. Columbia Gorge Community College
Columbia Gorge Community College is a public community college in The Dalles, Oregon, which is situated and surrounded by the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. History The college began in 1977 as the Wasco Area Education Service District, which not long after was changed to Treaty Oak Education Service District. The original incarnation of the college operated in leased facilities in downtown The Dalles for 16 years. In 1989, a public vote changed the college's designation from a service district to a community college, and later its name was changed to Columbia Gorge Community College. In 1993, a bond election allowed for the purchase and remodeling of the current campus facility, a former hospital. In 2001, voters in Wasco County and Hood River County approved the annexation of Hood River County to the college's service district.
