Gordon Wharton
Gordon Kenneth Alexander Wharton (19 April 1929 – 2 December 2011) was a British poet. Biography Gordon Kenneth Alexander Wharton was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire on 19 April 1929. He left school aged 14 and said that anything he learned afterwards was self-taught. He started publishing poems from the age of about 21 and he became co-editor of the now-defunct literary magazine ''Chanticleer'' with the Irish poet, Patrick Galvin, at around the same time. Shortly afterwards he started reviewing regularly for the Times Literary Supplement, mainly dealing with modern and 17th-century poetry. Wharton listed among the prime influences on his work Dylan Thomas, Andrew Marvell and ("inevitably") W.H. Auden. More recently, as may be evident from some of his later poems, the more economical style of Ian Hamilton has been an influence. High Wycombe
High Wycombe, often referred to as Wycombe ( ), is a market town in Buckinghamshire, England. Lying in the valley of the River Wye, Buckinghamshire, River Wye surrounded by the Chiltern Hills, it is west-northwest of Charing Cross in London, south-southeast of Aylesbury, southeast of Oxford, northeast of Reading, Berkshire, Reading and north of Maidenhead. According to the 2021 United Kingdom census, High Wycombe's built up area has a population of 127,856, making it the largest town in the ceremonial county of Buckinghamshire. The High Wycombe Urban Area, the conurbation of which the town is the largest component, has a population of 140,684. Fantasy Press
Fantasy Press was an American publishing house specialising in fantasy and science fiction titles. Established in 1946 by Lloyd Arthur Eshbach in Reading, Pennsylvania, it was most notable for publishing the works of authors such as Robert A. Heinlein and E. E. Smith. One of its more notable offerings was the Lensman series. Among its books was '' Of Worlds Beyond: The Science of Science Fiction Writing'' (1947), which was the first book about modern SF and contained essays by John W. Campbell, Jr., Robert A. Heinlein, A. E. van Vogt and others. History Lloyd Arthur Eshbach ordered a copy of '' Skylark of Space'' from its publisher, the Buffalo Book Company, in 1945 or 1946. Like many of Buffalo's customers, Eshbach was frustrated by Buffalo's delays in publishing and lack of marketing, an area that Eschbach had some expertise in, from his job as a copywriter for Glidden.
