Skrad
Skrad is a village and a municipality in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in western Croatia. History Skrad was first mentioned on 22 February 1481 in a document freeing the citizens of Grič from tariffs in Skrad and elsewhere, unless the other Skrad was intended. In 1860–1879, Matija Mažuranić wrote a 62 folio manuscript today titled Writings on the Building of Roads in Gorski Kotar and Lika (), today with signature HR- Za NSK R 6424. A 21 folio manuscript dated 1872 titled Darstellung der Entstehung des Baues ... der Luisenstrasse togethr with a translation by I. Mikloušić is kept as HR- Za NSK R 4572. After the Lujzijana was built, the ''Družtvo lujzinske ceste'' constructed an inn in Skrad together with stables and an aqueduct. In 1874, the society would sell all its assets along the road, including those in Skrad. Hala Basha-Gorani (; born March 1, 1970) is an American journalist, working as a correspondent for NBC News. Previously she was an anchor and correspondent for CNN International, based in London. She is also a war correspondent. She previously anchored CNN's ''Hala Gorani Tonight'' weeknights at 8 p.m. CET. Gorani co-hosted '' Your World Today'' with Jim Clancy until February 2009 and then International Desk until April 2014 from CNN's Atlanta headquarters. Since February 2022, Gorani has been a special war anchor based in Lviv, in western Ukraine, during the Russian invasion. Although broadcast in the late evening to her American audience, the time difference means that she is coming live in the early morning from Ukraine. Water Deer
The water deer (''Hydropotes inermis'') is a small deer species native to Korea and China. Its prominent tusks, similar to those of musk deer, have led to both subspecies being colloquially named vampire deer in English-speaking areas to which they have been imported. It was first described to the Western world by Robert Swinhoe in 1870. Taxonomy There are two subspecies: the Chinese water deer (''H. i. inermis'') and the Korean water deer (''H. i. argyropus''). The water deer is superficially more similar to a musk deer than a true deer; despite anatomical peculiarities, including a pair of prominent tusks (downward-pointing canine teeth) and its lack of antlers, it is classified as a cervid. Gorani Language
Gorani (), also known by the name of its main dialect, Hawrami (, ''Hewramî''), is a Northwestern Iranian language spoken by ethnic Kurds in northeastern Iraq and northwestern Iran and which with Zaza language, Zaza constitute the Zaza–Gorani languages. Zaza and Gorani are linguistically distinct from the Kurdish language, although the great majority of their speakers consider their language to be Kurdish. Gorani is spoken in Iraq and Iran and has four dialects: Bajelani, Hawrami, and Sarli, some sources also include the Shabaki language, Shabaki as a dialect of Gorani as well. Of these, Hawrami was the traditional literary language and Koiné language, koiné of Kurds in the historical Ardalan region at the Zagros Mountains, but has since been supplanted by Central Kurdish and Southern Kurdish. Zaza–Gorani is a Kurdic linguistic subgroup of Northwestern Iranian languages. They are usually classified as a non- Kurdish branch of the Northwestern Iranian languages but most of their speakers consider themselves ethnic Kurds. The Gorani or Goranski, also Našinski ("Our language") language, is a regiolectal variety of South Slavic spoken by the Gorani people in the border area between Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Albania. Gorski Kotar () is the mountainous region in Croatia between Karlovac and Rijeka. Because 63% of its surface is forested it is popularly called ''the green lungs of Croatia'' or ''Croatian Switzerland''. The European route E65, which connects Budapest and Zagreb with the Adriatic Port of Rijeka, passes through the region. Geography The region is divided between Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Karlovac County. The Gorani (, ) or Goranci (, ), are a Slavic ethnic group inhabiting the Gora region, the triangle between Kosovo, Albania, and North Macedonia. They number an estimated 60,000 people and speak a transitional South Slavic dialect called '' Goranski''. The vast majority of the Gorani people adhere to Sunni Islam.
