Gop (also known as "Gope") is a Village and a Grama Panchayat in the Puri district of the Indian States and territories of India, state of Odisha, India, Odisha. Geography Gop is located at . It has an average elevation of 6 metres (20 ft). Gop is famous for the Sun temple, Kathiawar (5th and 6th century AD) comprises square sanctum circumscribed by double courtyards. The important places like Biratunga, Begunia, Nimapara, Nagapur, Kakatpur, Bhaimapur, Ganeswarpur, Kusabhadra surround Gop. Gopa (caste)
Gopa or Gop or Gope is a synonym of the Ahir (Yadav) caste in India and Nepal. It is generally used as a title by the Ahir caste in the states of Bihar in India and Terai region of Nepal. Etymology The Sanskrit word Gopa, originally meant only a cowherd; it then came to mean the head of cowpen and lastly the chief of a tribe. Origin and history Buddhaswami, an ancient scholar, in his Brhatkathaslokasamgraha has mentioned the story of an Abhira who lived in a 'Ghosha' where both the terms 'Abhira' and 'Gopa' have been used for the same people. The Amarakosha lists Gopa, Gopala, Gosamkhya, Godhuk, and Ballava as synonyms for Abhira and states that the village or settlement where Abhiras lived was called Ghosa or Abhirapalli. Gwalior was known as Gopagiri in ancient and early medieval times, as mentioned in inscriptions by rulers such as Mihirkula and in an 876 AD inscription of Bhoja Deva, which suggest some kind of association of this place with pastoral communities like th ... The Grupo de Operaciones Policiales Especiales (GOPE) () is the police tactical unit of Carabineros de Chile which carries out high-risk police operations throughout the country, including location and tracking of bombs and explosives, bomb disposal, rescuing people or bodies from places of difficult access, anti-crime raids, and clashes. GOPE is a special force of military uniformed police, as stipulated in the Constitutional Act of Carabineros. Gope (11 April 1913 – 19 March 1957) was an Indian actor of Hindi cinema. Starting his career with a small role in ''Insaan Ya Shaitaan'' (1933), directed by Moti Gidwani and produced by Eastern Arts Production, Gope went on to act in over one hundred forty films in a career spanning twenty-four years from 1933 to 1957. Several of his films were released following his death. Best known for his comedy roles, he is stated to be one of Hindi cinema's "most popular comedians". His acting in comic roles won him "critical and popular acclaim" and he soon became "the leading comedian of his time". His popularity assured him of being mentioned in the credit role of films along with the main cast. He became famous after lip-syncing the popular number "Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon" from '' Patanga'', given playback by C. Ramchandra for Gope and by Shamshad Begum for Nigar Sultana. Raja Narendra Lal Khan Women's College (Autonomous), also known as Gope College or Raja Narendra Lal Khan Mahila Mahavidyalaya, is an undergraduate and postgraduate women's college in Midnapore, West Bengal. It was established in 1957. It is affiliated with Vidyasagar University. History This college began its journey from the historic Gope Palace on 22 August 1957. Gope Palace, built in 1895 during the time of Raja Narendra Lal Khan, the king of Narajole is now the administrative building of the College. Anjali Khan, wife of Sri Amarendra Lal Khan of the Narajole Royal Family, donated the Palace for the establishment of this College named, after the palaces' founder.
