Goodhue County ( ) is a County (United States), county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 47,582. Its county seat is Red Wing, Minnesota, Red Wing. Nearly all of Prairie Island Indian Community is within the county. Goodhue County comprises the Red Wing, MN Micropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota, St. Paul, MN-Wisconsin, WI Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Combined Statistical Area. History The county was created on March 5, 1853, with territory partitioned from Wabasha County, Minnesota, Wabasha County. Jack Goodhue
Elias Jack Goodhue (born 13 June 1995) is a New Zealand rugby union player who currently plays as a centre for Castres Olympique in the French Top 14. Early career Originating from the Northland Region of New Zealand, Goodhue was born in the city of Whangarei and raised on a farm in Whananaki near Hikurangi, New Zealand, along with older brother Cameron and twin Josh who both went on to become professional rugby players. He attended Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland along with his twin who captained their top side while Jack was vice captain as they won 17 of their 20 games in 2013. Sarah Whipple Goodhue (3 November 1641–23 July 1681) was an American Puritan writer from New England who is remembered for her work ''The Copy of a Valedictory and Monitory Writing'', written seven days before her death. Biography Goodhue was born on 3 November 1641 in Ipswich, Massachusetts to a family of middle-class merchants. She was the only child of Elder John and Susannah Whipple. As a child, Sarah was exposed to the multifaceted activities of her father, which included politics, schooling, the general court, and his rule as elder of the church. Sarah Goodhue learnt to read and write, unlike many girls of that era. She married Deacon Joseph Goodhue in Ipswich on 13 July 1661. They had their first child within ten months of being married, and they had nine children in total. Lyle D. Goodhue (September 30, 1903 – September 18, 1981) was an internationally known inventor, research chemist and entomologist, with 105 U. S. and 25 foreign patents. He invented the "aerosol bomb" (also known as the "bug bomb"), which was credited with saving the lives of many thousands of soldiers during World War II by dispensing malaria mosquito-killing liquid insecticides as a mist from small containers. The Bug Bomb became especially important to the war effort after the Philippines fell in 1942, when it was reported that malaria had played a major part in the defeat of American and British forces. After the war, this invention gave birth to a new international billion-dollar aerosol industry. A broad variety of consumer products ranging from cleaners and paints to hair spray and food have since been packaged in aerosol containers. Josh Goodhue
Joshua K. Goodhue (born 13 June 1995) is a New Zealand rugby union player. Early career Goodhue was raised on a farm in the Northland Region of New Zealand along with older brother Cameron and twin brother Jack, who would both also go on to become professional rugby union players. He attended Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland where he captained their top side to 17 victories in 20 games during the 2013 season. After finishing school, he took a short break to visit brother Cameron who was playing for Worcester Warriors in England at the time. He played some rugby in England before returning to his homeland to turn out for Kawakawa in the local Northland club competition. During this time, he also captained his province at Under 19 level. Harry Wright Goodhue
Harry Wright Goodhue (1905–1931) was a stained glass artist whose work is featured in churches throughout the United States. During his short career he designed windows for over thirty churches. Background and family Goodhue was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and the eldest son of Boston stained glass artist Harry Eldredge Goodhue and Mary Louise Wright Goodhue. Wright received his early training in his father's Boston studio and in children's art classes at the Boston Museum of Fine Art. In 1921, Wright left school to work as an office boy and later as a draftsman in the architectural firm of Allen & Collens, where he designed his first stained glass windows including a chancel window for a church designed by his uncle Bertram G. Goodhue. Wright later studied for two years at Harvard University, where he wrote a thesis on aesthetics. In 1930 he married writer Cornelia Evans and they lived in Greenwich Village. Goodhue is a city in Goodhue County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,176 at the 2010 census. History Goodhue was incorporated in 1889. Goodhue formerly had a rail line running through the eastern edge of the incorporated area, roughly parallel to and west of State Highway 58. The Goodhue Area Historical Society constructed a museum in the community named in honor of James M. Goodhue, a newspaperman who was the first editor of the '' St. Paul Pioneer Press''.
