Doc Society (formerly Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation and BRITDOC Foundation) is a social entrepreneurship organisation created in 2005. They have supported the production of over 60 films that have won awards . Development Initially supported by UK broadcaster Channel 4 to support British documentaries declined by broadcast commissioners, the BRITDOC Foundation has grown to receive further funding from NGOs, brands and foundations such as PUMA.Creative and the Bertha Foundation to invest in the support of documentary film. The Foundation also works in other areas of film funding by creating the pitching forum 'Good Pitch' and popular film torrent site VODO. Their mission is to support international documentary film from production to distribution to outreach. The Foundation is headed by three directors: Jess Search, Beadie Finzi and Maxyne Franklin. Havana Marking is a British producer and director of documentary films. She is known for her first feature documentary in 2009 ''Afghan Star (film), Afghan Star''. This film won Best Director and the Audience Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. Life Marking was born in England and moved to the United States as a child. Her father, Giles Marking, is a designer in London and he was an Architecture professor at the University of Washington. Stacy Marking (13 November 1939; died 2 October 2023), her mother, was a journalist, writer and businessmwoman and was one of the first female television directors in the UK. Moving To Mars (Coldplay Song)
"Moving to Mars" is a song by British rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their fifth studio album ''Mylo Xyloto''. However, it failed to make the final track listing. Instead, it was released in the ''Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall'' iTunes exclusive EP. The first half of the song is a piano based ballad, while the rest of it is a mid-tempo number with progressive rock influences. Development The song was inspired by a documentary of the same name, which is based around two families being forced out of Burma into an entirely new world in the UK. The film was directed by the band's longtime collaborator Mat Whitecross, who also directed some of Coldplay's music videos, such as "Lovers in Japan", "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall", "Paradise" and "Charlie Brown". ''Ping Pong'' ''(Never too old for gold)'' is a 2012 documentary film, that follows eight pensioners from around the world as they train for and compete in the over 80's table tennis world championship in Inner Mongolia. The film's world premiere took place at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto. ''The Island President'' is a 2011 documentary film about the efforts of then-President of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed to tackle rising sea levels resulting from climate change. ''The Little Couple'' is an American reality television series on TLC that debuted May 26, 2009. The series features Bill Klein, a businessman, and Dr. Jennifer Arnold, a neonatologist, who both have skeletal dysplasia. Arnold is and Klein tall. They moved from New York City, after Jen completed her pediatric residency and masters of medical education at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. ''A Small Act'' is a documentary film produced by Harambee Media and HBO and directed by Jennifer Arnold. The documentary chronicles Chris Mburu's search for his benefactor, whose sponsorship allowed him to continue secondary school in Kenya. He would go on to earn degrees from the University of Nairobi and Harvard Law School. Synopsis Chris Mburu is a United Nations human rights advocate. As a child in Kenya, he was a good student, but would not have been able to enter secondary school, as only Primary School is free of cost in Kenya. John Hicklenton (8 May 1967 – 19 March 2010), aka John Deadstock, was a British comics artist best known for his brutal, visceral work on flagship '' 2000 AD'' characters like ''Judge Dredd'' (in particular ''Heavy Metal Dredd'') and ''Nemesis the Warlock'' during the Eighties and Nineties. He had multiple sclerosis and recorded an award-winning documentary about living with the condition. On 19 March 2010, Hicklenton chose to end his life at Dignitas in Switzerland. Comics Hicklenton got his first break when he realised a friend at college was Ron Smith's daughter so he made her a Judge Dredd Christmas card.
