Gomeo Bobelu
Gomeo Bobelu (December 25, 1964–November 16, 2022), was a Zuni ( Zuni: ''Shiwi'') (Badger Clan and Child of the Corn Clan) lapidary jeweler and silversmith who was known for his gemstone-inlayed silver jewelry. He was also a social justice advocate. Early life Bobelu was born at Zuni Pueblo into a family of artists and farmers. He was educated at the Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Bobelu served in the audiovisual services and graphic design division of the U.S. Air Force. Work Bobelu was known for his silversmithing and lapidary jewelry. He considered his work to be a "tribute to the victims and survivors of suicide and domestic abuse on our Indian reservations." His work as an artist was associated with the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts. Zuni Pueblo
Zuni Pueblo (also Zuñi Pueblo, Zuni: ''Halona Idiwan’a'' meaning "Middle Place") is a census-designated place (CDP) in McKinley County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 6,176 as of the 2020 Census. It is inhabited largely by members of the Zuni people. Geography The community is within the Zuni Indian Reservation or Pueblo of Zuni in southwestern McKinley County, south of Gallup, the county seat, and east of the Arizona border. It is bordered to the east by the smaller community of Black Rock. New Mexico State Road 53 passes through Zuni Pueblo and Black Rock, leading east to Ramah and southwest (along with Arizona State Route 61) to U.S. Route 191. Pueblo refers to the settlements of the Pueblo peoples, Native American tribes in the Southwestern United States, currently in New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. The permanent communities, including some of the oldest continually occupied settlements in the United States, are called pueblos (lowercased). Spanish explorers of northern New Spain used the term ''pueblo'' to refer to permanent Indigenous towns they found in the region, mainly in New Mexico and parts of Arizona, in the former province of Nuevo México.
