Golis Mountains
The Golis Mountains (Golis range, ) are a mountain range in Somaliland. Also known as ''Qar Golis'', they cut through the Togdheer region, and end near the Gan Libah. The original meaning of Golis Mountains is a mountain range near Golis mountain, but since the Somali Civil War, the entire so-called Karkaar mountains are often referred to as the Golis Mountains. Golis mountains in its original meaning The mountain range near Sheikh is the Golis Mountains in its original sense, and also the Golis Mountains in today's narrower sense. Area In 1898, a map published in ''Two Recent Journeys in Northern Somaliland'' shows the Golis Range as being around 10 degrees north latitude and 44 degrees 30 minutes to 45 degrees 30 minutes east longitude. Gollis University
Gollis University (GU) is a privately owned university in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland. It is situated near the Golis Mountains. Overview Gollis University serves the Hargeisa Region and receives students from portions of the other five regions. It was founded in 2004 as a non-profit institution, opened to students for enrollment in 2005, and was upgraded to a university within 10 months of its opening. Starting with 40 criminal justice and 40 civil engineering students, the student population reached 706 at the end of 2007. The university operates one campus at Hargeisa, the second capital of Somalia. The tuition fees from students (approximately $500.00/student/semester) are the main source of income for the University. Gollis
Gollis is a Norwegian tourist attraction. It is a tall Santa Claus made out of plastic materials. It is located in Lyngseidet in Lyngen Municipality in Troms county. Lyngseidet is 15 km north of the village of Furuflaten and 12 km by ferry from Olderdalen. It has been claimed to be the world's biggest Santa Claus. History Standing at a towering height of 32 feet, this Lyngen sculpture is inspired by the spirit of Christmas. Gollis was built in 1992. The idea behind the structure was to create a Santa Claus figure that was represented a symbol of the town's connection to Christmas traditions, particularly linked to the local folklore and history of Santa Claus. It is popular with tourists, but the locals are divided in their views.
